They don't engage. Say things like "some of the things he does make me mad but he's my president". Try to engage me in non-political ways where before it was Trump in my face all the time.
One started on a death penalty case and how he was finally going to die after getting free room and board for 16 years or something. I explained how the death penalty costs more than putting someone in prison with no parole and anyway, it is barbaric and we should join the rest of the civilized world and get rid of it and she agreed with me! A couple other Trumpers who I don't know posted some stupid ass "they don't even deserve a trial" and the first Trumper came to my defense. She started sounding like me by the end of the day.
Hearing that Trump is hiring people to go to his rallies and some Trumpers not acting so bold right now, I'm thinking this Trump shit is losing steam. I tend to think it was the kids in cages. At first they defended it but quickly they became more and more silent. Now they act like my friend and avoid talking about Trump. Or say "yeah, he pisses me off sometimes too".
Anyone else seeing this? Know that my only contact with Trump voters this time of year is on facebook. But I communicate there with my relatives who are Trumpers as well as people who I share other interests with (glass blowers). Will be interesting to see how the holidays play out with them this year.

(9,426 posts)the holidays, this nightmare will be over. He is an embarrassment to the country. Obviously mentally "off". No normal person fixes their hair that way, rants on twitter the way he does, tweeting the messages he sends. Something is not right with this clown. I am ashamed that he is in the WH, along with his disgusting "kids". Hopefully, we will see him, plus his gop enablers having to pay for the crimes committed against this country.

(11,885 posts)That have turned on him , and are sorry they backed him after seeing what he really is, a con man , and a corrupt criminal who probably committed treason against this country. They're more pissed then others now. We're seeing many start to tire of his lying, his corruption and self dealing, and his acts against this country like at Helsinki. When he's exposed with video's coming soon, plus getting exposed for being broke as a joke , and more it'll be over for him. Even the republicans in Congress are tiring of him and his antics, and corruption.

(14,492 posts)That will be a major inflection point in his demise......
Now, if we could just get Twitter to dump him......

(15,286 posts)describe them. IIRC, the panel was discussing the OH-12 primary. I think that's a good description, these voters weren't sure about Trump, so they tried him and now, after 18 months of non-stop idiocy, don't like what they got.

(15,543 posts)and the republicans have spewed a steady barrage of lies. The FAKE is in America's face. A few will go on swallowing. But I do believe most people will eventually get around to spitting out the republican lies, and spitting their true feelings in the face of the dishonest and disloyal KGOP Traitor Party which has betrayed America with such arrogance and greed-driven intent.

(12,586 posts)there's another argument I make to those who support it:
When the state kills someone, it is acting as the agent of those it represents. Since it is your agent, you should be willing to take the actions yourself that you are directing it to do. Are you willing to be the person who pulls the switch, injects the poisons, or otherwise terminates a human being's life? If not, you don't have standing to tell someone else to do it.
The third argument against the death penalty is based on the significant number of times a defendant is found to be innocent 20 or so years after the verdict, due to exculpatory evidence -- usually DNA -- being found. Sometimes the records are examined and found to contain false testimony by the police or others, or just a simple case of misidentification by the prime witness.
The fourth thing I do is ask, "Who in this group has taken part in a death penalty trial? Raise your hand." I am always the only one to do so. When I first became a lawyer I worked as a law clerk for a Circuit Judge, and one of the cases we tried (I did all the legal research and wrote the jury instructions) was a death penalty one. Where a "normal" murder trial would take two or three days, this case went on for four weeks.
At one time the solicitor (that's what they call prosecutors in South Carolina -- it's an elected position) told the Judge in confidence that he knew it wasn't really a death penalty case (legally it was, but in reality the facts didn't support that penalty). He said he was only trying it that way because he had promised the voters he'd try all eligible cases as capital ones, and if he didn't do it this time his opponent at the next election would use it against him.
Early on the public defender told us that his client (there were two -- it was a murder for hire, and he was the gunman) would willingly plead guilty to murder, but not to the death penalty, which was all the solicitor would accept.
So basically we wasted all those resources -- we could have tried eight cases in those four weeks -- because the asshole solicitor had to keep a political promise.
