Trump often roars about the need to respect the flag in his racist rants against NFL players who kneel during the national anthem. Yet as it turns out, embattled Education Secretary Betsy DeVos refuses to fly the American flag on at least one of her familys ten yachts.
Devos 164-foot yacht the one that was recently untied and set adrift flies the flag of the Cayman Islands, not the stars and stripes.
And this foreign flag isnt just an unpatriotic decorating choice. Its also a scheme that helps DeVos avoid taxes, regulations, transparency requirements and domestic employment laws, Newsweek reports.
Newsweek estimates that the DeVos empire would owe the state of Michigan roughly $2.4 million if it registered the $40 million yacht there, rather than in the Cayman Islands.

What's pathetic about it is that it likely sits there empty 90% of the time and the DeVos people only use it for little parties where they are lavishly served by servants.

(3,290 posts)I would imagine that the rest of her family is just as disgusting. Greedy money worshipping bastards that have not one shred of humainty in any of one them.
Comparatively speaking, I don't have a pot to pee in as they say, but would not allow that hypocritical scum in my home for all their money.

(4,448 posts)Take a stroll down any of Ft Lauderdales major marinas, except during hurricane season, there are literally hundreds of these superyachts moored there. Many of them complete with Helicopters and tenders that are larger than most "small" pleasure boats.
What they all have in common however, is that virtually none are registered in the US. (sadly even the ones owned by some of my favorite Democrats in Hollywood, but I'm not naming any names)
Cruise lines do it to. None of the major cruise lines register their vessels in the United States.
I don't know what the difference in tax is on a $40m vessel for the Bahamas vs US, but it most be significant since its very rare to see a US registered super yacht.
