How do you combat the bullshit? I want to have some good counter arguments ready the next time I'm at a party.

4. Where I live I really don't run into any. In Seattle, more people voted

for Jill Stein than Donald Trump.

But if there is some topic you're concerned about, I do talk to conservatives on FB sometimes -- the friends of my friends. What I have noticed is that so often their source is something like Youtube, instead of a major newspaper or magazine. I'm concerned about what's going to happen to younger people, who don't grow up with a traditional newspaper landing on their doorstop. How do they begin to sort out the legit sites from the garbage online?

The scary thing is that Trump has weaponized fake news. If you are in an argument and you quote any source that they don't like, all the other person has to do is accuse you of being part of the fake news machine and that's it. I really want to know how you combat shit like this.

3. I don't watch the nation anthem when it is broadcast before NFL or MLB games

I purposely tune in a little late. I object to the way those two sports leagues in particular have tried to piggy-back onto people's patriotism/positive feelings towards the anthem/flag/armed forces/police/fire.

I also turn baseball games off entirely when I encounter "God Bless America" during the seventh inning stretch. I don't like baseball enough to subject myself to manipulative, sanctimonious bullsh*t like that.

Needless to say I don't watch a lot of baseball. Anyway, that's ridiculous. The ritual of public patriotism is supposed to be over when the ump cries, "Play ball!"

7. Not a good idea...

One, there really isn't enough room in typical stadium seating to do that. It's physically hard to imagine any normal adult being able to do that. Then, there is the whole thing about floors your operating on there. At the beginning of the game, maybe it wouldn't be too bad, but you still might get dropped hot dogs and spilled beer, even that early.

BTW, I fully support the players in this. I remember my seats from a few years ago, and yeah not a workable idea.

13. Very risky maneuver

Fans in the stands would use extreme measures to deal with this.

Not every time but often enough that I wouldn't dare do it.

These things obviously sound cute from afar but I doubt the suggesters have actually been in those environs recently, after this topic surfaced. You literally have right wing thugs in the stands -- often already drunk -- shouting at fans to stand up when the announcement is made regarding the anthem. It is seemingly more important to them than anything that happens during the game itself.

Those stadiums are loaded with white conservative males. Fights break out over trivial matters, let alone something like this.

But I'm still made at anyone who did it. Nobody can know that their vote won't be a critical one.
