Man at my local grocery store wearing a Russian military t-shirt.

It said something like, "Russian Military: We Kill You"

It was written in faux Cyrillic, so I'm not 100% positive that was the exact wording.

There was imagery of missiles, tanks and other war gear on it. It in no way looked like satire.

As a child of the 1980s, the idea that someone would wear such a thing in public is mind boggling to me.

Granted, I have a Pussy Riot tshirt, but I see that as being anti-Putin/Trump.

I have to assume this was pro-Putin?

I found it disturbing.

Until recently I would have taken that to mean the Russian military is a tool for violent oppression. Now the type of people who used to tell people like me to “move to Russia” are the ones praising Russia!

"That's a disgusting shirt and you're an idiot for wearing it. Now go back to Russia ya commie bastard"?

Ok, I wouldn't have said it either, but I would have thought it while scowling.

I met a young man several years ago, who was from Russia.

He had come to the US on a student visa and was a college student.

He fell in love the US so much that he joined the US military in order to take the first step to becoming a permanent resident and eventually a citizen.

Here was a young man who was willing to potentially die for our country, from our long rival.

Now, we have young American men who seem to want to join Russia's military.

Something has gone terribly wrong.

1) This guy is just trying to be provocative. He hates liberals and thinks his t shirt will really get under our skin. Besides that, he really doesn't think about the meaning of the words or images on his shirt.

2) He is someone who has bought into the idea that Russia is our friend because they elected tRump.

I'm leaning more toward category 1 because the message on the shirt is just so shocking. I really think he wants someone to say something to him so he can start a fight.

Anyway, I do agree with you that there are some seriously screwed up people out there. The best thing to do is ignore them.

Some of these idiots are just itching to fight with a liberal.

We shouldn't give them the satisfaction.

"Russian army isn't big on talk, so stop trying to say otherwise and defeat bullets with sanctions."

I was all for sending lethal weaponry to Ukraine in '14. I could wear that t-shirt.

But like the guy with the "Pussy Riot" shirt, he has his reason for wearing it and his reason is the one that counts--not the reason(s) that others impute to him.

4 years on, I bet very, very few people remember Russia grabbing Crimea. If they have forgotten (or never understood) that hostile act, then they will not see the use in continuing sanctions. I'm still hopping mad about it, so if you find that shirt give me the link.

And when I Google “russian military kill you t-shirt” literally this very post was the first link to show up and nothing close came up for sale anywhere.

Without finding any pictures of a shirt similar and without knowing the exact wording I’m going to guess it’s probably a rip on the old Russian Reversal type joke that you took the wrong way. It may have been a like minded person.
