In a stunning reversal of political fortunes, Gov. David Ige (D) brushed off opposition from much of Hawaiis Democratic establishment Saturday on his way to defeating his top rival, Rep. Colleen Hanabusa (D), the Honolulu Star Advertiser reports.
Ige staged a dramatic turnaround in a re-election effort that was in deep trouble just six months ago, but ended with Hanabusa conceding the race in a speech shortly before 10:30 p.m.
ige will face House Minority Leader Rep. Andria Tupola (R) in the general election.

Did Hanabusa think she was going to win? So, surprise! Why was David Ige in such deep trouble 6 months ago?

(60,536 posts)Someone posted an article yesterday (or I read it somewhere else), reporting Ige wasn't expected to win because he wasn't too cool on a couple issues that arose...one being the escape plan in the event of nuclear attack and one other issue. But the article also reported Ige was making a comeback and could possibly win.

I thought it probably had to do with the huge screw up sending a false alarm that there was an imminent missile from North Korea heading straight to Hawaii.
I felt so bad for those peeps who were awake and had to go through those emotions. I slept through the whole thing.
