Yes, in tiny little Goldsboro NC Al Gore opened his environmental justice campaign. Listening to him speak it was impossible not to think what should have been. He would have been a sensational President.

We missed a great deal by not having him as President.

(52,162 posts)As I am sure you know Rev. Barber is fantastic at public speaking and Gore was every bit as good as he was. I will admit he wasn't as good of one back then.

(6,917 posts)Gore's "dull" manner was on SNL when he responded "put it in the lockbox" about protecting Social Security funds from Republicans.
Dull or not, he was 100% right. I'm starting to wonder now if he really did invent the Internet. LOL

Trump is right in a way. They made fun of Gore, pushed the Iraq war. Also pushed trump on us. They are still not doing us any favors by allowing Trump tweets and Rudy spilling his lying bile every day.
I have come to dislike Jake Tapper with his constant Rudy shows. In between he has Bernie, keeps calling him a spokesman for the Democratic Party. He is not.

with Democrats it's turning positives into something debatable and taking away the credit they deserve.
with republicans it's turning negatives into something debatable and taking away the blame they deserve.

(81,286 posts)snarking about his sweaters and his wearing earth tones and all kinds of superficial crap. She thought she was soooooooo funny. I'm sure all those who lost loved ones in the unnecessary war of lies in Iraq think so, too. That was one of many things that would not have happened if Al Gore had been president.
Okay, 3rd party fans - don't forget how fucking Ralph Nader screwed us all - and, stunningly, his own self and all the consumer protection work he'd done in the past, by making it possible for bush/cheney to get close enough to steal it. And steal it they DID. I hope he's happy. Didja "send that message," Ralphie-boy? Hows that republi-CON governing that YOU made possible working out for ya?
Just like the Green Party jerk did in Ohio 12 last week. HAD to get in there and take just enough votes away from O'Connor so he'd come up short and that seat stayed red. That thousand votes that went to the Green Party guy would have been more than enough to put O'Connor over the top.
There is NO REASON - NONE - to vote 3rd party unless you actually want the Republi-CONS to win. NONE.
WHEN ARE WE GONNA LEARN THAT??????????????

It was incredibly exciting and Al Gore was an awesome speaker on that beautiful, bright, sunny & hopeful day in Athens, GA.
It makes me so sad to think what might have been and should have been.

(51,598 posts)As I was falling asleep last night I thought about how different the world would be right now if the GOP hadn't stolen the election and Al had been the POTUS for 8 years instead of Bush. It is hot, there are fires and we have just begun to see Climate Change occurring in our everyday lives.
He was into Climate Change and I am fairly certain that there would be a ton of policies and serious funding for preparing for it as well as trying to slow it down. Instead we had an unnecessary war that damaged our reputation as a country and wasted tons of our money and resources among other things.

(21,573 posts)we would already have made significant inroads into curbing climate change...........
but also lets not forget...............
9/11 never would have happened. Gore would not have been asleep at the switch on vacation when the Bin Laden memos came in. The towers would still be there, all those people would still be alive, and all the hate and fear mongering the right has used to justify curbing our liberties and demonizing immigrants would not have had the basis for existing that 9/11 gave the GOP. The Iraq war never would have happened, all those soldiers who died for nothing would still be alive, and we'd have the trillions of dollars wasted back in our treasury
There is no end to the horrors America has endured because the 2000 election was stolen from Gore.

(13,775 posts)The budget was in surplus, the national debt wouldve been paid off on 2009, 2001 probably wouldnt have happened, no Iraq war, etc. etc.
Remember that under Clinton they stopped the Millenium Bomber trying to enter US from Canada. They heard a warning and when into full surveillance mode. W ignored the terrorist threats and the country is irrevocably changed because of it.
Were deep in debt.
Think what we couldve done if the national debt had been paid off. Money for health care, schools, social services, infrastructure, etc.
When I realize how much these compromised elections and gerrymandering have cost us, its heartbreaking.

They have their little henchpeople in repuglicons who don't have a chance to think about the rational course of action. They are traitors to the US constitution and democracy in general.

When you think of Clinton and Gores vision for our country and see what we got instead, this is where you end up when you willingly give your power away.
