FLIPPABLE: Ami Wazlawik for MN-HD38B

Hi! I’m Ami Wazlawik, and I’m running to be your state representative. I am a near lifelong resident of the area, growing up in White Bear Lake and White Bear Township. I attended local public schools (Go Bears!), where I enjoyed singing in the choir and competing in History Day competitions.

After graduating from high school I spent two years at St. Olaf College, studying psychology and enjoying small town life in Northfield, MN. I completed my college education at the University of Minnesota, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in psychology.

Throughout my childhood, my parents emphasized the importance of helping others and giving back to the community, values that inspired me to pursue service in AmeriCorps after I graduated from college. I then returned to the University of Minnesota, where I studied social policy and prevention science at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs and graduated with a Master’s degree in public policy.

Working in public schools, the private sector, and nonprofit advocacy organizations has provided me with a breadth and depth of knowledge on a variety of topics. My years of experience working in schools, including the 3+ years I’ve been working in the White Bear Lake district, have taught me the value of our educational system and given me the knowledge and tools to improve it. My past work as a sexual violence advocate and my recent internship at the Minnesota Coalition Against Sexual Assault have given me a valuable perspective on an important and timely issue that impacts so many in our community.

I look forward to bringing all of these pieces of my experience to the legislature with me to make thoughtful, well-informed decisions.
