(6,327 posts)Also Radio Hanoi rebroadcast from Radio Havana. Even at 14, I was amazed by how crude and unconvincing and downright inane the propaganda broadcasts were. Fox News reminds me of them an awful lot.
It wasn't just because 1965 me hated Commies. Radio Moscow was pretty well done. You could actually listen to it.

(12,955 posts)Also RadioMoscow and Radio Tirana (Albania) which called us running dog capitalists. I,too, recognized Faux News as a clone of Radio Moscow, especially after the nomination of Don the Con and brought it to the attention of friends who had lived under the soviet regime and were now dithering about his candidacy. It did no noticeable good.

(185,311 posts)but then I don't watch Faux News. She could be one of those shows (like Jeanne Pirro sp?) that's made simply to be reposted on Facebook.

The European countries are far more aware of American politics than we are of European affairs. I'll bet a lot of Americans (including most of the Faux News viewers) can't even name 10 countries in Europe. I doubt this young woman could even point out Denmark on a map. On the other hand the Europeans are far more knowledgeable about us, our history, geography and our current events. It really puts us to shame. This guy speaks English as a second language, and yet he still won this debate with little effort.

Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all ones lifetime.

(1,030 posts)My grandparents came here from Denmark and I still have quite a few relatives over there who are probably wondering what the heck is going on over here. I only wish that the U.S. government was as progressive and as supportive of their populace as Denmark is. Maybe someday, when people are valued over corporations, rich people aren't in charge of everything, and all people are treated equally... Well, I can dream, can't I?
