The stats are clear - gun control works

The top 10 states for fewest firearms deaths per 100,000 residents - all blue states

The bottom 14 states for most firearms deaths per 100,000 - 13 of the 14 are red states

source for this data is from the CDC:

https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/pressroom/sosmap/firearm_mortality/firearm.htm

I haven't heard about anybody not being able to get guns in Massachusetts?

It could be that Democrats are more civil (i.e., less likely to shoot each other) in general... and the more Democrats there are in a state, the fewer gun deaths you should expect. They would also be the ones most likely to pass gun control legislation, but that doesn't mean that one caused the other... it could mean that BOTH are caused by "more Democrats"

I'm sure that the top ten cities by firearm death rate are all blue... that too is correlation, not causation.

however, the very red governor and state legislature make decisions regarding gun laws for the state and the funding of the state towns and cities.

Correlating the red/blue color of a state to gun deaths in the state simply doesn't demonstrate that gun control laws are effective. That doesn't mean that they aren't... just that the data you're looking at doesn't show it.

To your most recent point... St Louis isn't always at the top. Last year it was Baltimore (a blue city in a blue state with one of the toughest sets of gun control laws in the country).
