Slightly more than half of voters surveyed in a new national poll say the Trump presidency makes them think less of the Republican Party and that the 45th president has given just 16 percent a higher opinion of his party.
The Republicans trailed Democrats by a 51-42 percent margin when the Quinnipiac University poll asked which party they would vote for in November's mid-term elections.
The Quinnipiac poll tracks closely with a CNN survey released earlier this week, which gave the Democrats a 52-41 percent advantage in an election just 83 days away.
Washington is a battleground in November, with three Republican-held U.S. House seats at play. One is held by a member of the Republican leadership, Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, R-Wash., who is being pressed by Democratic challenger Lisa Brown. Brown was until recently chancellor of Washington State University -- Spokane.
The swing in both polls is among Independent voters, who are favoring the Democrats.
The CNN survey found 81 percent of voters concerned about health care, with 80 percent worried about the economy and 77 percent concerned with immigration issues.
