Logic Puzzle: How can Trump's poll numbers be staying steady?

Logic Puzzle: How can Trump's poll numbers be staying steady with his "crimes" rising every hour?

If 40%ish approve of him - they don't ALL watch only Faux News or no news.

Maybe because he is successfully preventing/diffusing the cumulative effect of his antics? Maybe our side and the news that want him out need to do a better job of reminding/accumulating?

2. Because Obama's economy is still improving.

Wages aren’t improving but they haven’t for decades.

Trump’s tax cut is also stimulating a bit, with a big bill to come due later.

So a lot of people are giving Trump credit he does not deserve.

https://www.pressherald.com/2017/01/01/alan-caron-america-is-suffering-from-a-dangerous-knowledge-deficit/

As Susan Jacoby, author of “The Age of American Unreason,” wrote: “Every shortcoming of American governance is related in some fashion to the knowledge deficit of the public.” And our knowledge deficit is growing:

• For the first time in America’s history, this generation will be less educated than the last.

• Sixty-eight percent of public school third-graders cannot read proficiently.

• We’re 19th among young people with a high school or associate degree.

• Where we once led the world in the number of young people with college degrees, we’re now in 12th place.

• We’re 52nd in the quality of university math and science instruction.

• Reading among all ages is declining rapidly. Forty percent of Americans under 44 haven’t read a book this year. Growing numbers of young people read nothing except required school assignments.

• Nearly 50 percent of all graduate students in the sciences in the U.S. are foreigners, most of whom will return to their home countries.

That’s taken a toll on our understanding of civics and politics:

• Two-thirds of Americans can’t name the three branches of our federal government.

• Only 40 percent know we have 100 senators in the U.S. Congress.

• Over 35 percent cannot name any rights granted by the First Amendment aside from free speech.

• Forty-two percent think that the Constitution established English as our national language.

• Twenty-five percent believe the Constitution also established Christianity as our national religion.

Our scientific knowledge is abysmal:

• Forty-two percent of Americans believe God created human beings less than 10,000 years ago.

• Eighteen percent of Americans believe that the sun revolves around the Earth.

• Only 28 percent of high school science teachers follow recommended guidelines on teaching evolution.

• Three out of four Republicans in the U.S. Senate and half of those in the House deny the validity of climate change, despite the warnings of virtually every major significant scientific organization in the world.

• American schools regularly undervalue intelligence while celebrating athletes and pretty cheerleaders. Schools in Europe and other economic competitors do nothing of the sort. Most don’t even have athletics in their schools.

14. Also, statistics and sampling methods, in general.

It's really not that difficult to skew your sample, either intentionally, or unintentionally. If they're still polling by landline, they're probably getting a higher percentage of the Fox "News" crowd in their samples. That will skew the results to give Trump more favorable ratings. If they poll more residents of areas favorable to Trump, they can skew the poll in his favor that way. Poll predominately younger people, women and minorities, and it's not inconceivable that Trump's approval ratings go down to 10%. It all depends on who you're asking.

4. I tend to think it's because the shock factor has worn off after nearly two years.

His first year in office, his approval bobbed between 35-38 percent for the most part, and I tend to think it was because people were constantly surprised and disgusted by the constant scandals that emerged from the White House.

But as we've gotten deep into year 2, people have gotten used to it. Instead of being outraged, people just shrug and say "Yeah, it doesn't surprise me because it's Trump."

5. 'Morning Joe' had a discussion about polls today.
Tue Aug 21, 2018, 10:26 AM
Aug 2018

The latest poll asked the question, "Do you think the country is on the right track?"

The answer was 35% said "No". That was DOWN 6 points from the last poll. The answer to that question is trending down.
It's the lowest it's ever been since trump took office.

The panel thought that was really significant. They suggested 35% is his true base and those numbers could further erode as the tariffs hit home, the price of consumer goods goes up and farmers all over the country can't sell their crops.

7. The hardcore 15% Trumpanzees don't watch Fox because it is too liberal.

FOX has gone TOO far progressive, liberal and a snow storm of snowflakes.

Been watching FOX and MSM the last couple of days. Getting tired of trying to tell them apart based on their guests' stances on political/Trump issues on everything current and past. Juan Williams seems to be empowered and out of ranting control talking over people and yelling. Him along with a couple of females and Sheppie are repulsively biased which is now festered and oozing out.

Fox has been part of the Ministry of Propaganda for years.
Turn them off.

9. There are regular GOP voters who will support any R

I think a lot of standard GOPers dislike him personally, but they're supporting "the party". After all, most of them voted for someone else in the primaries. But when Trump crashes, he might bring the party down with him (we can only hope).

They've tossed in all their chips with Trump. He's probably going to take the party down with him. So they probably feel like they have to say they support him, to prop him up hoping to stave off the inevitable crash.

13. Your question assumes that 40% is a good percentage, when it is abyssmal.

After all, we live in a country where presidential elections are usually decided by a fraction of a percentage point of the popular vote, a country where a new president usually enjoys approval numbers above 50% for at least the first year or so of their presidency.

The story here is that tRump’s numbers have never moved significantly north, not that they don’t seem to be on a steady course even further south.
