2018 Issue: Republicans want to raid Soc. Sec. to pay for paid family leave
As important as paid family leave is, I don't think anyone wants Social Security to be raided to pay for it.
This is a winning issue in the 2018 elections, as everyone is vested in SS, but not everyone will need paid family leave, especially seniors who tend to vote Republican.
And yes, there is a Democrat/progressive plan: the FAMILY Act would pay for all kinds of family leave -- including the birth of a child, but also the care of a sick child, parent, or other family member and other forms of family leave. And it would be paid for through an increase in payroll taxes.
Beyond the SS raiding, Rubio's plan is just generally garbage. It covers ONLY leave to care for a new child.
This is EXACTLY the type of contrast that needs to be drawn to show voters the Republicans don't deserve Congress.
