General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsFINALLY! The talking heads on the TV machine are at last saying that, with Cohen's
allocution today, the very LEGITIMACY of Individual 1's regime is called into question!
And, against this backdrop, the Republican "Parliament of Whores" is moving steadily forward on the looming confirmation of one Mr. Kavanaugh, thought to be a reliable "nothing to see here---move along!" vote should Individual 1 need another partisan friend on the SCOTUS.
This must be stopped---by whatever means necessary. If the current interpretations of the Constitution and statutes do not provide obvious remedies to address this crisis, new interpretations should be explored and statutes should be revised. The confirmation of Kavanaugh under the current circumstances would be a travesty and could only serve to reinforce the growing sentiment that "legal" and "just" are two very different concepts.
We are not "approaching a Constitutional crisis"; we are up to our eyeballs in one.
I have made similar posts before. I expect the same bored yawns that the others generated. It's my parents' fault: they taught me it is better to be right than popular.

(11,856 posts)the others should this reach the SCOTUS and Kavanaugh is confirmed,
And I'm also not sure that if Kavanaugh IS seated that under another Senate there won't be an attempt to impeach him for previous lies told in conformation hearings.
And, like you Atticus, you can blame my parents for instilling unwavering optimism in me.

And I want them to refuse to budge until it is withdrawn.

(88 posts)And Bharara should know better!
Cohen did not state under oath that the President directed him to commit a federal crime. Cohen stated that "a candidate for federal office" so directed him, and that ain't the same thing!
Obviously, we're better off today than we were yesterday. Cohen's statement helps. But we're not there yet and won't be until Cohen states under oath in no uncertain terms that "Donald Trump" directed him to commit a federal crime.

(53,778 posts)House members did a similar action last year. It's got plenty of press and photos of them occupying the House floor and then being removed by Capitol Police.
If the repugs want to ram the nomination thru the Dems can't really stop them without defections from repug ranks so the symbolism of the act would show Dem resistance to the public and it may turn out to be significant if down the road the orange criminal's nominees are deemed null and void because he's a fucking crook (sorry, I couldn't help myself there).
