Is Fox News getting subsidies? No way they make money off ads

Person a couple seats over on my flight is watching Faux. They’re largely ignoring the constitutional crisis involving their Der Twitler. But when it goes to commercial, they’re the most ridiculous ads I could think of. Worse than 3am on a digital sub channel.

Life Lock something. Some investment vehicle. Lawsuits over roundup where you, too, can seek compensation

I'm sure advertisers are willing to pay a lot to be there, whether we like it or not. Hannity alone regularly hits 3 million viewers.

Fox makes a fortune off ads.

Somebody is funding them. A superstar like Sean Hannity doesn't work for peanuts, ya know!

It would be interesting to review their in depth financials too. The Mercers? Foster Friess? Kochs?

That or there are a lot of Fox viewers with erectile disfunction.

It's tailor-made for hucksters.

Perfect for the sort of ad that rational people would dismiss as complete crap but which suckers would open their wallets for. Same as they do for everything else on that channel

That would be quite a trick, given that there are people who own shares in public companies solely for the purpose of having standing to bring derivative suits against those companies. It is something of a cottage industry in some legal circles.

If you have reason to believe that they are lying to the shareholders and the SEC, your information is worth big bucks. What are you waiting for?

That's one reason I don't have a cable or satellite subscription.

Everyone who has satellite or cable television subscription is subsidizing Fox News.

or MSNBC. At least, it was a couple of years ago. Since MSNBC has caught up in ratings, it may have evened out. But I suspect that the Fox rate is still much higher because their audience is an advertiser's wet dream (highly...let's say, impressionable).

Carriage rate is a per subscriber fee paid by a cable provider (Comcast, for example), to a network, Fox News in this case. Fox's rate was around $1.50 per subscriber per month. So if Comcast has 30,000,000 subscribers, that's $45,000,000 paid to Fox News each month just for Comcast. They have agreements with every cable provider.

And they are near the top of the heap as far as rates go. In fact, they might be #2, a distant #2 as ESPN famously commands a rate above $5, but they are the clear kings.
