FALSE! - Mollie Tibbetts' accused killer is in Iowa legally, his lawyer says

https://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/news/investigations/2018/08/22/mollie-tibbetts-alleged-killer-iowa-legally-lawyer-missing-student-body-found-brooklyn-trump/1064567002/

EDITED TO CALL THIS STORY OUT AS FALSE. KILLER USED FAKE ID.

A court document filed Wednesday morning states that the man accused of killing Mollie Tibbetts was working legally in Iowa.

Cristhian Bahena Rivera was charged Tuesday in the July 18 disappearance of Tibbetts, a University of Iowa student whose abduction has captured national headlines.

Law enforcement officials on Tuesday said he was an undocumented immigrant, which immediately fueled political debate, including a statement from Gov. Kim Reynolds: "We are angry that a broken immigration system allowed a predator like this to live in our community, and we will do all we can (to) bring justice to Mollie’s killer.”

Immigration, Customs and Enforcement also filed a detainer to make sure Rivera was not released. He is being held on a $1 million cash bond.

A document filed just before 9:30 a.m. Wednesday by Rivera’s attorney calls into question Rivera's immigration status.

The government is incorrectly promoting the idea that Rivera is not in Iowa legally, attorney Allen Richards of Tama said in a court document asking for a gag order in the case.

"Sad and sorry Trump has weighed in on this matter in national media which will poison the entire possible pool of jury members," Richards wrote, referencing a statement from the president citing Tibbetts' death as an example why "immigration laws are such a disgrace."

Rivera has lived in Iowa for four to seven years, working at Yarrabee Farms, a Brooklyn-area farm owned by Eric Lang, the brother of Craig Lang, a prominent Republican.

Craig Lang has verified that Rivera is in Iowa legally, according to Richards’ motion.

too bad they can't see that the murder itself is bad.

rather it's who did it that makes it bad.

Someone has defended themselves from murder charges by stating, "It couldn't have been me. I'm legal."

You'd think that a Governor would be careful not to incite anti-immigrant fervor that can lead to vigilantes and lynch mobs roaming the streets looking for the first immigrant or minority community they can find to "extract revenge". Usually, Governors don't do shit that can result in innocent people getting killed, but I forgot, we live in the times of Hate-Radio, Faux News and Donnie Short Fingers.

I'm afraid there is going to be blood in the streets before we rid ourselves of Retrumplicanism...well, I guess there already is.

Words fucking matter. And some Hayseed MAGAtt from Dumbfuckistan, 'Murika is going to get all hopped up on Oxy and PBR and see the Governors words as "carte blanche" to "fix" our immigration issue.

Not to mention how fucking sick it is to exploit a young girls murder and her families pain.

If it were me and it was my daughter, I would come out and very forcefully say to "stop using my daughter and our pain as a political football".

Things are "red-hot" in this country right now. People are going to get hurt.

The Langs claim that he passed an e-Verify check, but that's apparently not all that difficult to do from what I've read. Maybe he's here legally and maybe he's not. The facts will come out by and by.

The poor girl is dead either way.

I don't think there's enough evidence available to the public to know either way.

Use the SSN and a copy of a legit work document from someone with the same or similar name who is in the US legally and a guest worker, or use the SSN of a deceased person with a similar name who is a citizen and your good.

Or just a stolen SSN of a legal resident or US citizen with the same or a similar name.

Identify theft in the undocumented worker community is estimated to be anywhere from 60-75% of the people working in the US illegally. There is a huge market for selling the SSNs of people with common Hispanic names. They can’t find many employers willing to employ them without an SSN or work documents, but as long as they give them something that checks out they are happy to hire them, even though everyone knows what is happening. But as long as it checks out then the employer can claim ignorance.

I know someone with a very common Hispanic first and last name and his SSN got into circulation among the people that sell them. He’s had constant trouble since- accusations by the IRS he didn’t report income because someone else worked under his SSN, his daughter told they couldn’t qualify for any student aid because the people falsely using his SSN made it look like he was making way more money than he did, trouble with his security clearance because of it, even once warrants for his arrest for bad checks because someone 1500 miles away used his SSN to open a bank account.

Passing e-verify doesn’t mean much.

They have already spread the illegal alien spin far and wide and they think they have political traction with it. It is amazing how they can get away with blatant lies and misinformation over and over again. It makes me sick.

I feel almost bad for the sad-sacks who told us that we're not paying enough attention to this story because it "doesn't fit what you want to believe", only to watch them retreat (or, to give them the benefit of the doubt, 'advance-towards-the-rear) faster than Sean Spicer running for the bushes.
