Last night on Don Lemon's show, author, journalist, and CNN commentator Michael D'Antonio made his prediction for the end of tRump's presidency. As a tRump biographer ("The Truth About Trump, 2015), D'Antonio feels he knows his subject very well and often offers great insight into tRump's personality and demeanor.
His grand finale for der fuhrer goes like this:
tRump will not serve out his full first term. He also will not be impeached or otherwise forcibly removed from office. D'Antonio predicts that tRump will indignantly RESIGN as president, citing the stupidity and unappreciation of the American people for his decision. He feels that it will be tRump's declaration that he is too good for the American public, that they do not understand his brilliance, and therefore he can no longer waste his time and effort in attempting to lead them to a better life. This, of course, is completely in line with every other tRump departure or failure throughout his life.
tRump started laying the groundwork this morning, IMO, with his televised FOX interview, stating "I don't know how you can impeach somebody who's done a great job." Delusional, as always, tRump feels he deserves an A+ for his grade as president.
Thus, D'Antonio threw his pitch, and tRipling tRump came 3/4 of the way home. All that's left in this scenario is for tRump to make it all the way Home - to NYC - by resigning before his further disgrace.

(10,885 posts)Since BigBoy admires Shinzo Abe so much, perhaps he'd take a page from the Japanese creed. Gives him the perfect way of getting out of Dodge with his "honor" intact.

(1,004 posts)It would be the usual suspects: The Democrats, non-compliant Republicans, the intelligence community, the FBI, and of course, the big, stinky fake news media that would be the culprits.
Then he announces Trump Media, signs Sean Hannity to anchor, and vows to keep fighting for coal and white people, or whatever.

(10,885 posts)I can easily picture tRump sticking his chin up in the air and pulling his jacket around as much of his belly as possible, hauling his butt out of the WH with a middle finger salute to the US.

(10,885 posts)I love Borowitz.
He's basically saying the same as D'Antonio - that tRump would leave on his own accord, except that Borowitz has him sneaking out under cover of darkness.

(10,749 posts)Let's say this comes to pass.
Then what?
Indictments on the day he resigns?
Does he attempt to flee the US?
If not, is he taken into custody as a flight risk?
House arrest? - Would he get Secret Service protection?
If he does attempt to flee the US, where to? Russia? Who else would have him, regardless of the presence of a trump property?
And if there's a leak of an impending resignation, does this accelerate any of Mueller's other indictments, including sealed indictments? Jr., Eric, Ivanka? Stone?
Also, I've kind of wondered whether there's anything on Pence. And, if so, how that would play into the calculations.
And if there are indictments ready for trump, would Mueller issue them before any resignation and take this to the courts? As I mentioned in another speculative post, would this pretty much put any judicial appointments on hold, including Kavanaugh?
We are certainly in uncharted waters here.
And I have to say, I'm in the Robert Reich camp regarding the prospect of an annulment of trump's presidency. Sure, it's unprecedented. But so much has been unprecedented in American history until the precedent is set by legislation or the Supreme Court.

(10,885 posts)that I think he feels he can beat any and every rap. As someone who's been sued thousands of times, he acts as if he wins even when he doesn't, and feels quite invincible. He's delusional enough that he refuses to believe he's committed any crimes, and stupid enough to try to bluff and bully his way through any indictments. He doesn't understand there's a difference between a civil lawsuit and a federal indictment. All he knows is "WINNING". In his mind, he's untouchable.
Sorry for the long reply, but you put a lot out there to answer.

(46,166 posts)It's the scenario that always comes to mind. He goes off to Florida in a huff and gives the impression that he's sulking over being mistreated by everyone.
Only trouble is that at that point he get arrested. That piano falls out from a high window right on his head. So I still think he's going to stay in office as long as possible.
