All I have to say is that while I disagreed with many of his policies, I certainly respected the man for his service to our country.

(6,831 posts)Eternal Father, strong to save,
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,
Who bidd'st the mighty ocean deep
Its own appointed limits keep;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the Sea !
O Christ ! Who voice the waters heard
And hushed their raging at Thy word,
Who walked'st on the foaming deep,
And calm amidst its rage didst sleep;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the Sea !
Most Holy Spirit ! Who didst brood
Upon the chaos dark and rude,
And bid its angry tumult cease,
And give, for wild confusion, peace;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the Sea !
O Trinity of love and power !
Our brethren shield in danger's hour;
From rock to tempest, fire and foe,
Protect them wheresoe'er they go;
Thus evermore shall rise to Thee
Glad hymns of praise from Land and Sea.

(28,270 posts)I always honored the service John McCain gave to this country.
He didnt have to serve in Vietnam, he could have easily got our of it or held a post far from the war but he didnt.
And for that he was held prisoner and tortured for years. I cant to this day imagine the kind of mental and spiritual strength the man had to endure that terror so long.
Some gave all and surely John McCain is one. A real American hero and patriot.
Rest In Peace good sir, you have fulfilled your duty, above and beyond.

(29,227 posts)but let me pass along a heartfelt "May your passage be peaceful" from my father (US Navy pilot, WWII, enlisted) and my older brother (US Navy, Vietnam, Lt. JG). If they were still around, I'm sure they would have chimed in themselves.
