I know the story came out on Friday but certainly he had been interviewed before then. Trump knew that he was being interviewed. I am reminded of what Guilianni threatened about going after Ivanna a couple of months ago.
Also, it is unclear to me what kind of immunity does Weisselberg have. The Hill states that the immunity is only for the payments made to Daniels and the Playboy bunny. While I read here on DU somewhere that Weisselberg has total immunity??
Just wondering how deep into the foundation can the prosecutors and investigators probe.

(52,331 posts)Federal prosecutors in Manhattan struck a deal earlier this summer with Allen Weisselberg, the longtime chief financial officer of the Trump Organization, granting him immunity for his grand jury testimony about Michael D. Cohen, a person briefed on the arrangement said Friday.
News of Mr. Weisselbergs testimony came days after Mr. Cohen said Mr. Trump had directed him to commit campaign finance crimes and one day after another Trump loyalist, the tabloid executive David Pecker, was revealed to have agreed to help prosecutors in their case.
The person briefed on the deal said that it was narrow in scope, protecting Mr. Weisselberg from self-incrimination in sharing information with prosecutors about Mr. Cohen, Mr. Trumps former personal lawyer, who pleaded guilty on Tuesday to tax and campaign finance charges. The latter charges stemmed from payments during the campaign to two women who said they had affairs with Mr. Trump. It was not, the person said, a blanket immunity extending beyond the information he shared, and Mr. Weisselberg remains in his job at the Trump Organization

(51,201 posts)Either the immunity also covers info given about trump's involvement in the payoffs. (Why else would they need him past Cohen pleading). This means SDNY is now targeting trump for campaign violations.
or
That immunity has been broadened to immunize info about other crimes involving trump.

(202 posts)It is very possible that Trump Jr. is the one that signed off on the payments

(15,290 posts)as the NY state atty gen has an ongoing civil case against the Trump Foundation, of which Weissleberg is a board member, and that she has referred to the IRS for criminal prosecution. The NYC DA is also considering charges against the Trump Organization. SDNY probably did not want to take away the ability of other prosecutors to put the squeeze on Weissleberg.
