(35,077 posts)We put too much real and symbolic power in the hands of too few people. We need to build up other symbols that the US can be seen as. The office of POTUS should not be seen as the face of the US. Trump and his friends have damaged it far too much.

(33,345 posts)Get control of the House. Launch real investigations, let Mueller complete his report. Let the facts come out.
THEN IMPEACH THE FUCK OUT OF TRUMP.

(14,971 posts)I'd rather have continuous investigations into all the corruption and wrongdoing and bring all his dirty laundry to light. Including those damn tax returns.

(33,345 posts)but I'm too much of a cynic to think we'll get the satisfaction of seeing that, however. There will be something that saves face for the GOP/preserves the 2-party Status Quo, like a Resignation. Or he won't be convicted by the GOP quislings in the Senate, and he'll serve out his term(s), crowing about how great he is.
Even if he's convicted, he'll spend the rest of his life doing that, regardless. Only death with end his self-love. He is the worst person in the World.
I don't believe we'll ever see his tax returns, either, or those of any future GOP candidates. That "unwritten rule" has been smashed into shards, like all the others.

(33,345 posts)Or when the Mueller Investigation returns irrefutable evidence that he directed the conspiracy with Roosher.
Or the economy crashes/inflation returns.
The tottering Grandees of the GOP Senate require cover before they can abandon him. Once they're safe, once the cult begins to waver, they'll knife him in the back like Caesar.

(111,103 posts)The Congress should vote its conscience. If they feel a president has committed serious crimes and transgressions, then they should vote to impeach. Whether or not the Senate will convict or whether or not it will affect the next election, should not be part of the equation. That's playing politics with a very serious issue, in my opinion.

(42,770 posts)than the Republican apologists, in my opinion. Trump operates by throwing a new ball up in the air so you forget what he did yesterday and there is never any accumulation.
We owe it to the country to go on record with an accumulation of his crimes and stand up!!..whether we are successful or not.

(49,445 posts)Even if we take the House and Senate, a simple majority isn't enough to impeach or remove from office. We're going to need Republican help anyway.
But if we can take the House, we can investigate on OUR terms!
