(CNN)One of the men shot and killed at a gaming tournament in Jacksonville, Florida, on Sunday had won the national tournament, the Madden Classic, two years ago.
The other was a former high school football player who loved to play the online version of his favorite sport, and had won $51,000 in his short gaming career.
"They were great competitors and well-loved members of the Madden community. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go out to their families, loved ones, and all of those affected by this tragedy
.....
When you read about them they were good guys who were great real and game players
Elijah Clayton, 21, and Taylor Robertson, 27, were both football stars in high school and then later became successful pro-gamers.
The community has come out to say neither were trouble makers and they were easy to get along with.
Taylor Robertson from WV, leaves a young son and wife. Elijah Clayton 21, is from CA .
Both were young and had so much talent and life left if not murdered
The killer was also not from the state, and all were in town for the tournament

(146,317 posts)1. Unsuspected dangers of gaming?
As a non-gamer, I was not aware of the money angle of playing online games. Shows how much I know...

(21,646 posts)2. It shouldn't be dangerous. A lot of games are played for a purse or monetary prize
Take Trump's beloved golf for example. No different really from that game if an armed golfer shot two high prize purse winners on a course out of envy imo. Having a gun fired at you is a danger

(2,244 posts)3. Don't have to compete on a proffesional level to make bucks with video games.
Check out the phenomenon of Twitch TV and watch online gamers stream themselves live, playing any and every video game imaginable. You can make money with ads and amass followers who often donate money to your stream directly. It's like video game porn. The gaming babes will wink and wave at you live and mention your name if you toss them some ka-ching!
Popular streamers are raking it in.
