If you can watch the evening news and not be at least tempted to

surrender to cynicism, you are made of sterner stuff than I am. It is often embarrassingly obvious that the true purpose of the media coverage is not to inform us by simply telling us what's happening, but to provoke us. The provocation may be fear or disgust or outrage, but the goal is to "hook" us into continued viewing to "see what happens".
To be sure, there are exceptions, but what I describe above was prevalent enough to have aided and abetted Trump's theft of the White House and it continues to distract the "low information voters" from the unprecedented atrocities the Trumpocracy is committing in our name.

We have more than enough entertainment in our lives. We need more unembroidered truth if we are to have a chance to elect leaders with the intelligence and passion necessary to extricate us from the web that decades of apathy and hubris have woven around us.

I rant a little but the fear and despair that gripped me election night is gone. My goal is to stay balanced so I can maintain a rational mind, no matter what happens.
