Hello, my name is Javier Estevez and I am running to be your State Representative. I have formed this campaign in order to give the people of our community and our state a voice. For far too long the Florida Legislature has prioritized corporate interest above our own. I fully believe it is time that we had a representative that speaks for us and stands alongside the community.
I am a Millennial Democrat who was born, raised and educated in Miami, FL. Both my parents immigrated to Miami from Cuba. They worked hard to build a bright future for themselves and their children. My parents instilled in me the pride and privilege that i feel in being able to call myself an American Citizen. Themselves knowing how hard it is to lose those rights and be forced to leave their home country, to arrive in a brand new place, where they had nothing and didn't speak the language. Thanks to them and so many others that came with them, I know that anything is possible if you work hard and set your mind to it.
I have always stood for what is right and best for our city, state and country. That is why I am running. I have seen our so-called “representatives” ignore the issues that affect us everyday, and instead pass legislation that negatively affects our community. We need to take it upon ourselves to change course and finally have a legislature that focuses on the middle class families and children of our state.
We need to build an economy that not only protects but elevates working and middle class families. We need to build an education system that ensures our Public Schools have increased funding in order to give our children the best education possible. Also, we need to give the resources and pay that our teachers deserve. We need to build a healthcare system that is not only accessible but affordable. A healthcare system that finally focuses on preventative care, and protects our citizens. No one in Florida should die because they couldn't afford healthcare. No one in Florida should work 40 or more hours a week and be living in poverty. We can do better, we must do better.
It is finally time that we had a representative in the state legislature that speaks for us and that prioritizes our community before corporate interest. I believe that together we can positively effect change. I believe that together we can build a future to be proud of. And I believe that together we can finally begin to Build Tomorrow Today.
