This vile, unadulterated racism - By Eugene Robinson

By Eugene Robinson

President Trump’s bigoted hatred of Latino immigrants has been clear from the beginning. Now his administration is aggressively persecuting Latino citizens as well.

It is hard to be shocked anymore, given the daily outrages committed by Trump and his minions, but a report Thursday by The Post was jaw-dropping: In the borderlands of southern Texas, the State Department is denying passports to hundreds and perhaps thousands of men and women who have official birth certificates demonstrating they were born in the United States.

In some cases, valid passports have been confiscated and revoked, their holders stranded in Mexico, unable to come home. In other cases, people have been arrested, sent to detention centers and slated for deportation. Imagine how they and their American families must feel — and how their distress must make Trump and his fellow xenophobes feel warm inside.

Denial of passports effectively renders the victims stateless — meaning they cannot travel outside the country, because they would not be readmitted — and potentially vulnerable to being deported. Again, these are people who have government-issued birth certificates, long accepted as gold-standard proof of citizenship. The Trump administration simply doesn’t see Latinos as full-fledged Americans.

The Post quoted a 40-year-old man named Juan — he didn’t want his last name used for fear of being targeted — who has a birth certificate stating he was born in the Texas border city of Brownsville. He served his country for three years in the U.S. Army, then was a cadet in the Border Patrol, and now works as a Texas state prison guard. But when he applied to renew his passport this year, the State Department responded with a letter saying it didn’t believe he was a citizen.

The complicity and cowardice on the right to say ANYTHING, to DO anything in the face of such a colossal fraud of a man and such a criminal cabal of an administration - all in the name of judges and tax cuts??? REALLY? - must become the eulogy of the Republican Party. I don't care if Conservative ideologues start their own, "new" Republican Party, but the existing moniker MUST be made to be synonymous with racism, hate, sexism, division and demagoguery.

This stain must accompany them to every debate, every policy proposal, every primary and every general election for the next 50 years. The Republican Party abdicated their role in providing a check on an unhinged and truly dangerous Executive Branch, and we can NEVER let them off the hook for it...EVER!

Their complicity was evident during his ascent in 2015, when they courted his support and begged him to stay in the party and run as a Republican. They could have declared him a crazy racist asshole and expelled him from the party.

I was drafted for Viet Nam back in '67. Served my two years.
Got out and expected to be treated like a veteran but was
treated like a dumb-ass (And then I realized I was).

Went down to join the Legion and was given a paper to sign
that said I had to believe in God. I couldn't sign it and I thought
what the hell is Freedom?

I refuse to belong to any Veterans groups now.

Like a swarm of bees on a hot dog umbrella, the deplorables came out in force to chastise Mr. Robinson for daring to write the truth. These white privileged Neanderthals just don't know what the problem is...because "all you need to renew a passport is give them the old one."

The truth is that Trump hates Latinos. My theory is that his racism towards Latinos is rooted in his own life experience of growing up in Queens and living in N.Y his entire life where there is a large Puerto Rican community. Anyone who has lived in N.Y. or N.J. knows the racism towards Puerto Ricans in the New York metropolitan area. We all know the specific racial slurs that are directed specifically towards the Puerto Rican community. Trumps racism and hatred of Latinos is why he ignored the impact of Hurricane Maria and allowed Puerto Rico to be deprived of aid that resulted in nearly 3,000 deaths.

And your characterization is spot on. Vile, unadulterated racism seems to be seeping out of every corner of society these days, as if racists have been given permission to fly their racist flag. Or something.

If you want to build an organization of people that will be used to to brutal things, you can't build it in a day. You have to train your thugs and weed out those that are not sufficiently thuggy. The way to do that is to give them a graduated series of tasks that test their loyalty and inure them to the suffering of their victims.

In short, ICE will be Trump's Gestapo.

I will mock, ridicule, harass any latino that voted for IQ45, and
that includes my cousin.

I don't want to hear, "that's not the way to get it done! ..." or any variation,
if that's what you want to reply with.

I despise the POS in the WH.

Latinos for IQ45 better wake up.

How does an administration delve into birth certificates and make decisions on whether or not those birth certificates are real or not, when they cannot find children and parents who they separated at the border? Inquiring minds want to know.

If they did, they would offend the base of the party. White people scared of the demographic changes taking place.
