Panicked GOP cutting off cash to highly vulnerable candidates as they face midterm bloodbath

Panicked GOP cutting off cash to highly vulnerable candidates as they face midterm bloodbath tied to Trump
TOM BOGGIONI 31 AUG 2018 AT 07:58 ET

With Republicans facing what many are calling a “blue wave” of Democrats taking control of the House — and possibly the Senate — the Republican Party is cutting off funding to some incumbents whose races appear to be a lost cause under an increasingly unpopular president.

According to Politico, GOP officials feel that up to 45 Republican-held seats are now at serious risk, and are making plans to shut down support for incumbents whose campaigns are going nowhere and have failed to do much on their own to raise much-needed campaign donations.

“This is the time of year when tough decisions have to be made,” Ken Spain, a longtime former top National Republican Congressional Committee staffer, told Politico. “There are likely going to be a number of unhappy Republican members of Congress in the coming weeks.”

According to the report, the party is looking at polling to determine whom to weed out, with Rep. Barbara Comstock (VA), Rep. Keith Rothfus (PA), and Rep. Rod Blum (IA) reportedly on the funding chopping block.

I like it. Abby Finkenauer is a rising star if she can get past this hurdle.

She should pound Blum on his failure to exercise checks on the executive branch. Some of the arguments I have heard is that Blum is not Trump. Well if his party exercises no oversight (and actually impedes oversight) and he has done nothing to stop it, then he is tied to Trump.

they tied themselves to Trump? Trump is bringing down the Repug Party single-handedly and they continue to circle the wagons around this guy. What is going on behind the scenes that is making the Repugs walk themselves off this cliff. I keep saying that somebody - Trump or the Russians have a lot of dirt on the Repugs to make them do this.

I got to believe that whatever is causing the Repugs to commit hari-kari will come out in the end anyway.

Don't get me wrong - I'm happy the Repugs are doing themselves in. I just don't understand their rational.
