<snip>All eyes are on the special counsel Robert Mueller amid mounting speculation that he could come out with something substantial in the Russia investigation before Labor Day.
Mueller is investigating Russia's interference in the 2016 US election and whether members of President Donald Trump's campaign colluded with Moscow to tilt the race in his favor.<snip>

(8,652 posts)Election is Nov. 6 and October has 31 days. So, the last day to stay with 60 could be Wed. or Thur.

(8,652 posts)...even from Democrats that Mueller will be reluctant to indict any high profile Trump associate 60 days before the mid-terms. The DOJ protocol, which Comey broke with Hillary in 2016, is to not announce an investigation or indict a political candidate 60 days prior to his or her election. Since none of these investigations or indictments are expected to directly involve sitting elected officials or any challengers, Mueller could just go right ahead and ignore that protocol without violating it. But, as I said, conventional wisdom is that the mid-terms are so intertwined with this investigation, any bombshell announcement could have an overall affect in the outcome of many close elections.

(50,273 posts)It would still be 60 days before the election and he wouldn't be raining on the McCain tributes. A side benefit would be Dear Leader stewing over the long weekend.

(872 posts)All I've seen so far today are the funeral for Aretha, and McCain at the Capitol.
My only point is that Mueller will make news on his own schedule. I don't think he cares that today is August 31, and people are expecting something before Labor Day.

(872 posts)Why are the networks ignoring it?
Like I said, MSNBC seems to be having wall to wall McCain coverage. If Patten was a blockbuster story, they would be talking about it, and they're not.

(872 posts)Just that it's not some earth shaking story that is going to consume us over Labor Day weekend.
Believe me, I would absolutely love to see a Roger Stone, Drumpf Jr or Cohen indictment today, I just don't expect it to happen.

(111,095 posts)If the contributions went into the Trump Foundation or Trump Organizations and then, were distributed to Republican campaigns? A Republican Party taking foreign contributions seems like a big deal to me, also.
