Aretha's celebration shows big reason to GOTV in Nov

I was watching that stage filled with some of the most important people we've had involved in civil rights in the US and I took a moment to appreciate all the years of experience in fighting for the rights of all minorities. But, it dawned on me that we are on the cusp of a time when that generation will no longer be with us and it could be within the next decade. Are we ready to fill their shoes? We have to so their void isn't filled with the hate Trump is stoking.

The past 20 years Republicans have pushed an agenda of hate and divisiveness they fueled with lies and now we have a revival of people trying to take away those civil rights that were so hard fought for. We have a short window of time to turn this around, we have to get out the vote and get people in office to be the next generation ready to secure the laws needed to keep us from being oppressed. We need the next generation of civil rights activists to get and stay engaged. I love Reverend Barber for his part in resurrecting this feeling in us with his Moral Mondays that have become Moral Every days.

I'm just rambling but wanted to express again what we already know - I think this is the most important election of our lifetime. What's going on now is the worst of so many different times in our history wrapped up in one time. If you've been active politically for any time now, I know you're tired, I know watching the decades of work start to unravel was hard to witness. But we have to keep on, there is still time to right this ship. We can do it again, I know we can.
