OMG! You Have to Ask? Hell yes!
When I first arrived at DU, almost six years ago, I was an Obama supporter. Always was. He had me at his keynote speech in 2004. When I got here I was amazed at the vitriol toward Obama. I joined The Barack Obama Group that gave members some protection, not much. For many, he just never did anything fast enough or good enough. For me, best President of my lifetime.
So, when I first got here I supported him in many ways, one was in pictures and I posted a lot of them. Sadly it pissed off a lot of people that disliked, to put it mildly, him. One member that left before my time did the same. Her DU name escapes right now (Jackeen?), yet she went on to be a very successful blogger by the name of chipsticks....her site The Obama Diary.
So anyway, I am still here and want to mark my 50K post with a picture or two.
Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.

@dougmillsnyt: Obamas hands are seen as he talks with small business owners at the White House

I believe his quote to this day. Yes, someone threw us off a few steps, Russian and the trump Mafia. However we are the ones that we have been waiting for, so get the hell off your asses and vote as if your life, our future and our planet's survival depends on it. BECAUSE IT DOES!
Luv ya DU~

It's a wonder they all don't go out and try to start an argument with the sun every morning. There appears to be no end to their evil.

(6,555 posts)The White House is no longer a living, breathing place that we can love and take pride in. I remember posts from deplorables saying they needed to fumigate the White House before the trumps moved in. If that was needed then, are we going to do when this cabal moves on? We really can't burn it down, but man what it is going to take to get it back to what it once was.

(14,574 posts)So...presidents in my lifetime:
Ike - Not that good.
JFK - Didn't have long enough but could have been truly great.
LBJ - Nope. Great society was great, but sending 500,000 soldiers to Vietnam, really bad.
Nixon - Created EPA, but was dangerously paranoid.
Ford - Pardoned Nixon, not good.
Carter - Don't get mad at me. Carter is a truly GREAT man now, but not all that good a president.
H.W. Bush - No.
Clinton - FMLA is a good law, ran solid surplus, was good president. Didn't get to keep the 'peace dividend,' because of Newt.
W. Bush - Cheated in 2000. Dirty politics against McCain. Gore should have been prez.
OBAMA:
- Saved us from worldwide depression with ARRA.
- Passed Affordable Care Act.
- Paris Agreement.
- Iran deal.
- Countless good policy decisions.
Trump - not even worth mentioning in the same breath with these prior 10 presidents.
Obama? Yes, the greatest in my lifetime as well. Of course, I can't post in the Obama room, having been banned...but still Obama was the greatest in my lifetime as well. A great man, and a great president. I sure wish he was back in the WH.

(83,768 posts)We don't really use the group anymore as we don't need to hide as he is no longer President.
PS...a few of the hosts, after Hill won purged every blocked member in the Hill Group one by one. It took us hours and is a two step process. We did it for unity and it was not one that was shown to all of us by another.
Thanks for your kind words, Patrick. Best ever.

(15,803 posts)And, like you, I loathe the traumatic plunge from "Yes WE Can" to "It's all about ME!"
That said, in my heart of hearts I believe that whats-his-yuck is temporary, that WE will learn from this horror, that WE will vote and work hard to clean up the mess and rebuild wherever we must, and that WE are going to be okay because WE (as in We the People) are better than anything he can throw at us.
Meanwhile, get yourself busy on the next 50K!

(11,738 posts)The nature of governance. We need leaders because they inspire, but leaders are nothing without people who do the work, who put in the hours to get things done.
President Obama constantly implored us as a party and as a people, to "Push me" he would say, "Make me do things" and make your representatives do the right things. Government that is not participatory is just tyranny, no matter if it is benign or destructive. People in charge often want a docile and malleable constituency. It is sometimes easier, more expedient for making decisions. That however is not democracy (an yes I know we are a representational republic, not a direct democracy) the point is that without an active and informed electorate, we end up with Trump, we end up with CEO's making hundreds of times more than the average worker. We end up with people believing the immigration is actually a problem when the real problem is that most of the nation's wealth and income is concentrated in the hands of the very few. We think that because there were Civil Rights Acts, that the problem of racism, sexism, and other exclusionary "isms" and privilege has been dealt with and people are just being too sensitive.
We are not where we are because "President Obama didn't do enough..." or "The Democrats didn't do enough" or even because, "Republicans are evil..." we are where we are because too many people expect leaders to "do the right thing" instead of forcing them to do the right thing by voting and protesting, and letting them understand that we are giving them the privilege of representing us because we want them to help make life better for as many of us as possible.
He will, I think, in the end, get his place in history as a very good president. He like most other Presidents, is complex but he is a decent human being and he was a good leader.
Congratulations on the 50,000th post.

Fond memories of the BOG!
It was Jackeens! She had Awesome Pics of President Obama, family, and his Admin that she posted on DU. But, she was not one to be insulted for doing this.. and went off to create her own site, The Obama Diary, in 2009. I posted on it from 2010 to 2012.. when I came back to DU.
They're still posting apres President Obama..

(800 posts)Yes, I miss him every day. I miss his classiness, his level headed thinking, him compassion, his smile, his intelligence and his ability to shine in any given circumstance. I miss feeling comfortable with our leader on the world stage or in moments that need a sympathetic ear. I miss the fact that he brought all of our allies together and most of all, I miss being proud of our President. I agree with the belief that he was the greatest President in my lifetime.
