It's like comparing Nathan Hale to Benedict Arnold.

Sadly, I think this is truer now than when he said it.

(6,709 posts)I think it's a combination of the guilty pleas/verdicts and the bullshit raising/lowering of the the flag, the pouting, all that.
The people that hate John McCain will continue to do so and will back Rump. Those that are at all persuadable are being persuaded. I think.

(37,160 posts)Someone on my Facebook feed because we're relate recently shared a page which I will only partially misname as "Veterans With Nothing Better To Do Than Still Grind Axes Against Jane Fonda".
That carefully-cultivated unending animosity to Fonda, John Kerry, Dan Rather, and liberals & Democrats in general is a very comfortable position and well-worn rut for the same people who would theoretically be livid at Trump for the way he's acted against McCain.
I'm inclined to think the percentage that will huff and puff and make excuses will be larger than the percentage that it actually peels off.
That may provide an important margin, but don't bet the farm on it.

It surely can't be hurting.

(8,923 posts)Absolutely. People making a natural comparison of McCain to him - is opening some eyes how bad he really is, especially with his pettyness factored in. He looks like a complete joke.

(6,709 posts)They'll follow anyone anywhere if it involves tax cuts and destroying the federal government. I think it is the persuadable crowd: like, the (normally) fairly apolitical military and the people who actually are paying enough attention to guilty verdicts etc. The obvious and pathetic petulance was just the equivalent of a neon sign as to Rump's (lack of) character. Hard to ignore.
