What does it mean that "money was funneled" into Trump Inauguration from foreign sources?

Paul Manafort's second trial is scheduled for September 24th in Washington, D.C. Will W. Samuel Patten be a prosecution witness? What role did they both have in "funneling" money into the Inauguration?

Since the beginning, many people have been very suspicious about where the money came from and the way the money was spent. Rachel Maddow has reported on this rather extensively. An assistant to Melania Trump was paid $26 million dollars for questionable services? The entertainment line-up far exceeded the costs of the Obama Inauguration, even though far inferior?

Where did the money go? Did it go into the Trump Foundation? The trial in DC might get to the grit of a lot of the questions about Russian and other foreign interference? It appears that Robert Mueller has added an extra ingredient to the stew?
