The evangelicals support Russia because they know that they will get their theocracy the way things are going.

Putin has been cozying up to the Russian Orthodox Church for ages, so he can use them to advance his powers. And, sadly, he has been succeeding. The republican's marriage to the Reglious Right is just another iteration of that. They religiwhackos see what's going on there, and they're salivating over it. They want his help in finishing the job here.
