4. People Don't Like Someone Who Won't Fight Back, When It Finally Becomes Necessary.

As a Vietnam vet I have seen that sometimes it is necessary to go to war and fight back viciously. Now what I said does not mean that I really supported the war. However, troops being stuck there were in a position that they had to fight. In that case the ideal was to obliterate the enemy and make him fear you.

Not a nice situation sadly. Personally I had no qualms about what our Division did. The Air Cavalry took out a lot of NVA and VC during its mission. The North Vietnamese and VC were willing to sacrifice their entire population.

Interestingly Ho Chi Min did not want to fight a war really His power was usurped by a couple of hard core communists who had been trained under Mao. Ho Chi Min actually probably would have tried to arrange some kind of peace deal. He became only a figurehead early in he hostilities not by his own choice.
