The obvious first choice is General Mattis. A case could be made for General Kelly. I've even heard Jerrod and Ivanka's names mentioned.
I'm really, really going to get flamed here, but my guess is Kellyanne Conway.
Please don't shoot me down until you at least listen to my reasoning. Kellyanne entered the Republican primary season bashing Trump. She was a Cruz supporter. I think that's where her heart really is. Conway took over after Manafort. She's a Koch Brother's favorite, and they ain't on board with Trump anymore. Her Husband is a Trump basher. Imagine that conversation at dinner every night. Maybe anonymous is a composite of two or three senior officials, after all there's a lot of "we's' in this article.
There's going to be a guessing game as to who penned this NY Times article. Don't be surprised if we don't end up with Kellyanne Conway as the author.

I never watched that show the Apprentice, but this is how it went, one team conspiring on the other? Vicious back stabbing?

(12,344 posts)Makes me think it's a cabinet member or Pence. They would be the only ones to be able to do it, and they never would have let that conversation out of the room.

Also, if word leaks out it won't matter because Pence can not be fired by Trump.

(456 posts)In my mind, I can imagine a bit as a takeoff of "Spartacus" , We will be at a WH Staff Meeting, and Trump whines about the NYT piece and one by one, staff members stand up and say "I am the Resistance at the White House".,
"No, I am the resistance at the White House"...,

(82,849 posts)And assert that it's some traitorous, chickenshit motherfucker, hiding behind an unwarranted cloak of anonymity, who's just fine with what Trump's doing to the country, but has the teensiest weensiest twinge of vestigial conscience, and who has an in with the New York Times, which agreed to protect his identity.
Based on all that except the conscience thing, it could be anyone in the White House. Based on the conscience thing, it couldn't be anyone in the White House.

(4,858 posts)...do they figure he's too dumb to write complete sentences and paragraphs, like the author of the article? Whatever...he'd seem to be a likely suspect. Right in plain view, and we know Trump is frustrated by his--Sessions--not doing enough to follow Trump's instructions in frustrating the Mueller probe. And he would know if anyone had been talking about 25th amendment remedies.
