This anonymous op-ed in the NYT has me wondering if the Repukes are simply done with Orange Caligula and trying to save their own sorry asses at the same time. How many of them are also up to their eyeballs in Russian collusion? If they 25th Amendment the scumbag before November, they get to play the heroes riding into the midterms hoping to keep the Democrats from retaking the House. Trumpy takes the fall and they continue to quash any real congressional investigations that will uncover their complicity. Maybe I'm just paranoid or maybe I'm just not used to Repugs ever putting the country over their own ugly and greedy ambitions.

(25,261 posts)They didn't do proper vetting of their candidates as the primaries began. They didn't demand Trump make his taxes available. They just let him bully his way through to the nomination.
No - Nothing is going to help the Repugs in November and especially if Trump gets taken out by the 25th. They are responsible for everything that has happened since Trump declared he would be a candidate. They circled the wagons for this guy the whole time.
The Repugs will go down big time. The Dems and the MSM needs to make sure that the American People know this.

(29,719 posts)He has everything to gain. Get rid of trump through the 25th, shut down Mueller before it gets to him and he's got the big job; he's got the scotus that he needs and then he gets to be the true manchurian candidate slipping in on the sly. Don't forget Manafort hand picked Pence for some reason.

(2,850 posts)I still view that as a positive. We need to get rid of this dangerous nutjob before he breaks the entire government.
I don't think it plays into the GOP electoral strategy, because I was pretty sure the narrative was supposed to be "everything is normal, black is white, lies are truth, the Democrats just have Trump derangement syndrome". The GOP congress has still been complicit in supporting trump, and it's not even clear to me that they would go along with it, because of how livid it would make the MAGAts. You need a 2/3 majority of both houses to remove a president that way.

The motivation doesn't seem to align with expected results.
