Mid-Terms and the Cincinnati Shit show.

I'm in town visiting sick family and holy God this congressional race..... it's ugly.
Aftab Pureval (D)
Steve Chabot (R)

The commercials Chabot is running are full on Trumpish in their juvenile pettiness and downright crazy racism. Imagine the stupidest assortment of disconnected images designed to dog whistle the idiots and you have a Chabot commercial. They are crazy. Seriously, people are going to study these things as a representation of what Republicans stood for in the early 21st century. They even tossed in a pic of Pureval standing next to Hillary Clinton. (Oh noes)

Paul Ryan's superpac is paying for them... A LOT of them. I've seen 4 or 5 commercials in rotation ... EVERY commercial break in News hours. Every 3rd break otherwise. I've watched more TV in the last 3 days than in the last 6 months. Total saturation.

Even the shooting in downtown today didn't preempt these things. And Pureval isn't just sitting around. He's got his hit commercials out, all based on issues .... and with Chabot I would guess there's a lot to hit.

This district is shaped like an ink blot test, but is mostly in Warren County. The southern part of the county and most populated, is heavily populated by people with ties to India. For that reason alone I think Pureval has a good chance. Add in the sickening behavior of Chabot and Ryan and I think it's possible for a landslide.

Before we leave town my husband and I are going to go help Pureval's campaign for a day or two. It isn't much but considering my State continues to torture the US of A with Mitch, it is pretty much obligatory.

One of the great things about the anti-Aftab commercials is that this has NEVER taken a photograph where he isn't either smiling or looking constructively concerned. It would appear there is NO picture of him in any way doing the scowl, or side glance or any of the other looks that are so common in those black and white montages with spooky music.

But...ve haf our vays....they've got one where he's standing there smiling and they put a little gold starburst on one of his teeth - just a little dog whistle to those who understand the code of a dark skinned guy (artificially so in this ad) with a gold tooth.

Chabot is such a chit.

What I would add is the good news that his West Side base (the other side of the ink blot from the area you talk about) seems to be eroding. I have a fair number of friends out there and they're just tired of him. It doesn't help that he's using the same campaign kitsch cups that he's had for 20+ years.

Anyway - thanks for coming up to help and, as you already know, ya gots to do something about both the pricks you're sending to the Senate !!!!!

Sure enough... the cartooned in "grill" and extra darkened skin. Another one they cartoon a Pinocchio nose on him that looks more like a duck bill.... can't figure that one out at all but it is so juvenile it is almost laughable.

Pureval seems like a man with a heart mostly in the right place and enough ambition and ego to get things done. He won't be my rep but from first glance he seems like a person his district will be proud of.

My general opinion is that he's a good guy. Not quite sure yet how to work the system to get it all done but smart guy and he'll get there.

unfortunately, I'm in OH-02 so I'm stuck with Wenstrup. If you think OH-01 is gerrymandered, take a look at -02. It's a mess. I'm on the NW side of Cincy and I' in the same district with Chillocothie and Piketon about 2 hours east of here in rural south central ohio.

What a mess.
