He meant it too. In his mind, and no one will ever be able to tell him different, he did a great job.

Anything bad that happened was beyond his control - since what he did he did well. That's his thinking.

It's not his fault.

He'll pull the same shit with Florence.

He smiled for the cameras - that's his idea of a great job done.

Everything else is not his fault.
