Republicans Are Tripping on Trump's Coattails -- bigly

September 14, 2018 at 10:06 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard

Dana Milbank: “New evidence indicates that the midterm elections in seven weeks will be the clearest referendum on a president in at least 80 years.”

“But while it may delight the narcissistic president that the 2018 midterms are entirely about him, this is precisely what his fellow Republicans were hoping to avoid. With Trump’s support at historic lows — 60% overall disapprove of his performance, including 59% of independents — Republicans scrambling to hold the House and Senate have been struggling in vain to make the election about other issues: tax cuts, Democrats’ personal foibles — anything to avoid the election being about Trump. This has failed, bigly.”

“Midterm elections have generally come to be seen as the electorate’s reaction to a presidency. But this one is on a whole different level.”

The ads here in MI for the primaries were all about running to Trump for Reps. Now they mention him zero times, and they avoid any topics they can be associated with him. You’d hardly even know their party.

Gretchen Whitmer could literally run her opponent’s own primary ads and win. Bill Schuette is a Trumpster monster, his primary ads were Trump talking about him and endorsing him. That exact ad would be awful for him in the general election.

And he wants us to think about it more, too, doubtless.

I heard he was covering up his less than svelte belly with the overlong tie parlor trick.

Nowhere does it display he's a Repuke, he states he is going to Washington to clean-up the government that he so proudly and willingly endorsed a few scant months ago, and at no time does he mention Trump.

Of course the guy is a #1 sleaze and knows how to blow in the wind. He will probably win , unfortunately.
