To ask them to investigate, or not. It’s just research for the nomination, and DT controls it. Who knew?

5. No federal jurisdiction?

Way past statute of limitations?

Those are 2 reasons I can think of. Both good in my opinion.

The FBI does not vet the background of nominees.

No if he lied on his background check that is one thing. But those do not ask a person to list all the bad things they have done.

All of the accusations are not for federal crimes, the FBI has no jurisdiction.

The FBI does a background check on nominees where they can determine the veracity of claims like this and make a report. They still cannot do a criminal investigation.

That background check is done at the order of the President and is a one-time thing, once the report is made it’s over.

Had this matter be handed to the FBI during the period of the investigation being open they would have taken it and run. Since it was handed over after the President must order a new background investigation or that one re-opened for them to be able to do anything.

This information was known to multiple people in Congress while the background investigation was still open. I consider it a major mistake that they withheld it during that time.

The FBI has to have legal jurisdiction to just start investigations. They can’t do anything they want.
