I have to object to people calling, ANY, woman a bitch. Whether you are describing a political foe or not, please find another way of expressing your objection about that particular woman.
Thank you.

(47,209 posts)Rest of the internet to slur women on. Id suggest asshole works as a nice non-gendered substitute.

(47,512 posts)I guess a lot depends on what people think the meaning is. In many cases, it is the word that fits the best.

I seriously do not understand why it is more fitting than a hundred other non-gendered words like asshole.

(47,512 posts)I have been here since 2004 and I have never used the word at DU, though I don't always see it as a sexual slur. We live in a very diverse society and what a word means to one person, could be quite different to another. That said, I tend to be careful not to offend anyone unnecessarily, so I will only use the word in a smaller, more private environment.
"Asshole" works sometimes, but not always. Actually when at DU or any other public forum, I am inclined to avoid derogatory names, though I am quick to say "What the fuck", especially since Trump moved into the White House.
Thanks for the "suggestion", but it is not needed. I've never had a post hidden.

(47,209 posts)I think its fine to have some standards when youre in a sort of group meet thing like DU where you want mutual respect to be the norm. So much of the internet sucks for women. If youve ever been to an unmoderated feminist site, LOL, well theyre comments are the worst. And its destructive to the community feeling there, deliberately so. Its differbt than other profanity.

(26,081 posts)A gendered slur is a gendered slur -- it slurs all women. Would you call Ben Carson a racial slur on her? It is the same thing.

(6,496 posts)I'm a woman and I'm totally ok with the word bitch. I can't live my life without using some derogatory language. That's how I get the emotions out that would otherwise eat me up. Sure, I'm not going to use that language in a professional setting, but I'm not going to censor myself like that when it comes to my personal life. There's derogatory terms for both men and women. I think that is fair.
