Paul Begala Says Kavanaugh 'Tormented' Vince Foster's Family: 'A Vicious, Cruel Abuse of Power'

Paul Begala Says Brett Kavanaugh ‘Tormented’ Vince Foster’s Family: ‘A Vicious, Cruel Abuse of Power’

by Caleb Howe | Sep 18th, 2018, 9:20 pm

-snip-

Tapper turned then to Begala, asking if the strategy behind wanting Judge to testify is simply that they anticipate him being a terrible witness who will make Kavanaugh look bad. Begala took the moment to tear into Kavanaugh’s character.

“A huge part of the Kavanaugh defense is ‘he’s such a great guy. He’s a better Catholic than I am, he’s a better American than you are’ just ask him…. It’s baloney. Okay? It’s baloney,” he said.

“What’s baloney?” asked Tapper.

“Brett Kavanaugh used the power of the office of independent counselor, he worked for Ken Starr, to reopen the investigation into the of suicide of Vince Foster,” said Begala. “Now I knew Vince. I worked with him. He committed suicide. It was a tragedy. That was investigated by the park police, by the first special counsel, Robert Fisk, by the Senate, by the House, by the Secret Service. All said the obvious, the poor man took his own life.”

“He reopened it,” Begala said of Kavanaugh, visibly angry. “Spent millions of dollars and tormented the Foster family in the most vicious, cruel abuse of power I think I’ve seen in 30 years, and he should be held for account for it.”

“That’s part of his character, too,” said Begala. “If he would do something that horrible? I don’t know what he was like in high school. But I know what he was like with power in the office, and he tormented that poor family.”

Ham pointed out that there was already an opportunity to hold him to account.

“We had a whole hearing where we could discuss all of those things, where he was under oath,” she said.

Begala laughed at that and then repeated his own point that it goes to character.

Fred Guttenberg. His daughter was one of the children murdered at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL. When Mr. Guttenberg tried to shake his hand, Kavanaugh just sneered at him and refused to shake his hand. I will never be able to remove that image of his sneer from my mind. WH aid Raja later said that Kavanaugh didn't know him. BS. Dianne Feinstein invited Mr. Guttenberg to that hearing and had introduced the two men before the hearing.

My 15-year old niece also attends that school and we, as a family, are still trying to put the pieces of her life and our lives back together. Anyone who would respond to Fred Guttenberg in that despicable, dismissive fashion doesn't deserved to be appointed to SCOTUS.

Fred deserved better than that. We, as a nation, deserve better than Brett Kavanaugh.

I've been hopping mad for the better part of two years. And over that time, I've had three cases of the flu, a norovirus infection, pinched nerves in my neck and lower back, an old inner-ear problem finally burned out my hearing on one side, I cracked a rear molar somehow and needed a root canal, my blood pressure gets reactively elevated, and I've packed on 20 pounds from prednisone.

I'm normally a very healthy person who takes good care of himself. And while I know that anger is deadly, I want to stay informed, but it's exacting a price. 45's lawlessness and heartlessness are a stain on this country. And I'm at the point where I don't want a moment's contact with anyone who still supports King Asshole, because WHO could possibly find anything positive in that guy if they had a functioning critical mind?

You know, the "reality" where 45 gives himself an A-plus, and the administration is working like a well-oiled machine, and the North Korean nuclear threat is gone, and his circle is videotaped as they gush about how "blessed" they are to serve him, and where things are just better and better all over, and only a few people died in Puerto Rico, but Democrats are saying 3000 just to make him look bad, and every news outlet except Fox is the enemy of the people.

It is enough to make one literally ill. Sorry to hear that you're having health issues, too. Swimming can work wonders, just being in water feels good, but I haven't been able to use the pool due to the ear problem, and that's wearing on me.

We have to hang on. I haven't allowed myself to break away, even when I know I should give it (and myself) a rest for a few days. But each day brings some new outrage, without fail. And, as you say, the Republicans are just sitting there, enabling the monster they created. I haven't got a quick and easy answer, but I'm putting a lot of stock into the November elections, which are not far off now.

Take care --

Do not swim so no head under water. They have really great water aerobics in the mornings, but I go just as the class ends at 6:30. Having taken so many classes over the years I just choose my own. With foam weights you can do all the motions of swimming with your head above water.
Used the machines after a serious stomach virus to get my strength back.

Decided I prefer the water. No leg problems. Amazing how many do the exercises. I am talking mature here.

Thank you for sharing. It is important for all of us. I love DU because we all share the same iews, mostly. I do find it calming here. Sharing problems can help,I find.

BTW, I had to leave a Church where I had many friends and was active in because the hateful old Preacher ranted his bigotry. He is gone now, but my feelings have not changed towards what I heard from many.

I had my Obamacare,Union, FDR stickers on my back window. Only one asked me about it and I made my feelings clear.

If one who was totally unfamiliar with the notorious and infamous Ted Bundy, had never seen a photo of the guy, one posed photo of him probably wouldn't be a tip off. But, line up numerous photos of him over time, juxtaposed, you would see a progression and many of them clearly show the emptiness in his eyes. His face never really registered emotion.

When one observes serial killers (those who are not schizophrenic, and most serial killers who are psychopaths are not), at trial or in an interview, they are flat. Devoid of emotion. Methodical and precise in their description of events. These people are not like other people. And, for the most part, they'd never be classified as "crazy" (layman's term) by mental health professionals.

My comment was in response to the proposal above to test whether test subjects could identify criminals among a group of 50 men by looking at a photograph of each.

I'd also point out that how often people thinks someone looks very suspicious once their photo has been published in a newspaper in connection with a crime.

“Other societies were looking for a prestigious family background, or your GPA. Each had their own personalities,” said Sherry. TNC, Sherry said, was unique: It was “organized around having sex with coeds.”

Several years before Kavanaugh was initiated into TNC, Sherry said, the people on campus called the group by an “alternate nickname”: “Tit and Clit.”

In the memo that was published where Kavanaugh lays out his argument for hard questioning of Clinton, he states Clinton is at least guilty of "perjury". Perjury isn't just lying under oath. It's lying under oath on a matter that's material to the matter before the court. That's not what Clinton did. The judge in the case never accused Clinton of perjury and Clinton was never indicted by Starr for perjury.

So either Kavanaugh makes a grossly incompetent mistake with his allegation, or he's simply a partisan hack whose ideology trumps his jurisprudence. Either way it makes him unqualified to be on the SCOTUS.
