"Attention Mr. Grassley, Mr. McConnell, Mr. Hatch, Mr. Corker, Mr. Graham, Mr. Cornyn and Mr. 46 minus 1: this is Mr. Merrick Garland. Remember him. You held his Supreme Court nomination open for 293 days without a single hearing. During those 293 days, no one came forward with a shred of evidence about anything that would disqualify him. You just didnt schedule a hearing or vote for purely political reasons. There is now a credible rape allegation against your Court nominee. For a lifetime appointment. Whose nomination has been open only for 71 days. And your plan is to rush a vote on his nomination without an FBI investigation into a sexual assault he may have committed? Because 46 minus 1 says about the FBI, this is not their thing. The I in FBI stands for investigation. Even I (and everyone that works at the White House) had two FBI investigations into my background as the White House photographer, though I had never committed a crime. So you dont want the FBI to investigate someone for the Supreme Court about a rape allegation? Please explain."

(37,648 posts)They want the FBI to re-open that to investigate this incident. Correct?

(43,196 posts)He was acquitted. He was accused of issuing rulings in a political manner.
I only mention it because I think this issue should be investigated now. If they clear him, they clear him. I mean if Merrick Garland can be ignored, then a suspected rapist can be impeached. The old rules of civility aren't what they used to be, and it cuts both ways. Everyone says 'it could never be done'. Well, three years ago you all would have said 'they can't ignore a President's Supreme Court nomination for an entire year.' Not only did they do that, they ignored it completely!

(81,323 posts)put it together as easily as other sharp eyes and quick minds here did.
I am TOTALLY down with not giving him his number. I find it almost impossible to say his stolen title, because theres NO WAY Im validating his so-called election. He WASNT legitimately elected. He is NOT the legitimate President of the United States. The American people have NOT spoken, as so many talking heads put it, in trying to justify his so-called victory. The American people voted for Hillary Clinton to win - by an unavoidable, unignorable near-THREE MILLION MORE VOTES. He did NOT win ANYTHING as far as Im concerned. And the ADDED fact that Russia intervened and Vladimir Putin - the head of a HOSTILE FOREIGN POWER, mind you - put his thumb on the scale to help trump win, just validates my point.
I dont even capitalize the t in his last name because I will NOT give him any respect. He doesnt deserve any. And he certainly hasnt earned any.
He is in OUR White House under totally false pretenses. And therefore, he is NOT the legitimately elected president.

(2,227 posts)I don't believe in coincidences, like the exact three states needed to carry the electoral vote over the top for "trump with the feces touch", in spite of an almost 3,000,000 popular vote lead.
I believe all voters should either photograph their ballot (whether on paper or screen), with a verifiable voter identification record beside/on/under it. We have to be able to prove our vote. If you don't have a phone/camera, take a friend into the the booth with you and let them do it. People give assistance all the time. Just make sure it is someone YOU brought.
It would be extremely costly and time consuming, but the Democratic Party needs to be able to validate the votes for their candidates. The Democratic Party wastes lots of money. They could "waste" it doing this.
And the Democratic Party should have ALREADY provided resources for all Democratic voters be able to verify their voter registration status, and to be able to provide acceptable federal registration id at the polls.
They would only have to prove enough votes to validate that the election reported numbers are bogus. Once it is proven in a few places, the entire election would be in doubt.
We can't leave anything to chance. Let's not bicker about technicalities, or if it is too hard, or inconvenient. If we had started after the last election, all of this could have already been in place.
If not for 2018, then there is plenty of time for 2020.
Unfortunately if we don't get past 2018, there may not be a 2020.

(22,264 posts)No one is supposed to have their cell phones out once inside the room, except the Presiding Election Judge and only because it is needed to call the Election Commission to verify voters, or to seek assistance. As a judge I can not take photographs of the room during voting hours. I suppose I could take a shot of my co workers prior to opening the doors just for fun.
We can not even allow voters to take photos of each other to put on line to show they voted or selfies. That has to be done past the 100 foot marker.
If I see someone using a cell phone in the voting booth, I have to stop them.
One can take a printed item into the booth if they need a reference (especially important when we are voting on Constitutional Amendments and other complex things. Or if it is a long ballot, like this year)

(4,079 posts)I've never heard those rules, but it doesn't really surprise me that they exist. Especially in Texas.
Don't get me wrong. I was born and raised in Texas, and my whole family still live there. But it is for that reason that I KNOW how corrupt the politics can be. After all, Texas gave us W and Karl Rove, who cheated their way all the way to the White House.
Honestly, if I were still in Texas I would defy the rule, sneak my phone out, and take the picture. This kind of "cheating" is nothing compared to the way Republicans have been stealing elections for decades. The rules that you described seem designed specifically so that people canNOT verify their vote, thus allowing the R's to cheat yet again. I'm sick of it.
Of course, I live in Colorado now, where we have mail-in ballots. We can take as many pictures of it as we want before we drop it in the mail. I don't see a problem with it.

(1,068 posts)These people get together and decide beforehand who is going to be voted in and who is not. That was the case with Mr. Garland and the Repukelicans are trying very hard to confirm Brett Kavanaugh.

(21,744 posts)puppets are railroading a rapist onto the Supreme Court.
All that leaves is a totally corrupt Legislative branch of American government.
I hope you'll join me in kicking their corrupt ass at the voting box.
It's our ONLY fucking hope.
