Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, said Friday she was "appalled" after President Trump challenged the woman accusing Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault to produce evidence from law enforcement officials that should have been created if the incident was reported.
According to the Portland Press Herald, Collins said Trump's remarks was "completely inappropriate" given that many women don't report these incidents.
"First of all, we know that allegations of sexual assault I'm not saying thats what happened in this case but we know allegations of sexual assault are one of the most unreported crimes that exist," she said. "So I thought that the presidents tweet was completely inappropriate and wrong."
Christine Blasey Ford has accused Kavanaugh of forcing himself upon her in the 1980s while they were both in high school. Kavanaugh has rejected the allegation. Since coming forward with her allegation, Ford has been forced to move and has encountered death threats, according to Fords lawyers.
