I may be alone in my estimation of the GOP. As far as I am concerned the GOP would let the Russians invade if they were guaranteed power. I have been watching these murderous goons intently since Reagan. Look at all the lies, distortions, misery, death and destruction that they have caused even before Reagan.
Look at all the violence and death they have encouraged by proxy. Look at all their policies that harm people. Look at the negligence they supported that actually killed so many Puerto Ricans. Look at how many died in New Orleans via Bush negligence. Look at all the racist cops they now encourage to gun down African Americans. Look at all the denial of health insurance they encourage and are now about to take away in the future. Look at the silence over separated children.
Look at all the women who will be assaulted, injured, maimed, abused and even killed with the encouragement they are giving to abusers. Look at all the hungry children that they will create with their war on the poverty stricken.
We have a Nazi party in our midst that must be made extinct. This party is not a party but a serial killer.
So WHY IN THE HELL ARE BEING EVEN NICE TO THEM.

(33,643 posts)But yeah, this. And this is just the recent evil shit, tip of the iceberg, as it were.
The GOP are scum.

(35,337 posts)the largest has just over 5000 people. I could not believe this vehicle our Sheriff displayed at the county fair. I
am an Army veteran from back in 1970, we didn't even have such things in the Army at that time. This thing is
like a giant armored personnel carrier on tires instead of tracks, with machine gun turrets and all. WTF do we need something like that for?
The only thing I can imagine is some kind of armed rebellion.
It looks like this thing pictured on #14 here

If I had to guess, the idea of suppressing an armed rebellion or terrorist attack with those things may only be a secondary consideration. The main reason may be to deploy rather than scrap older surplus and open up new markets for defense contractors.
The only case I recall offhand of law enforcement using heavy military hardware was the Waco standoff, but in that case they just brought in armored vehicles from a nearby army base. Maybe there aren't any army bases in rural Ohio? But no doubt there are reserve and NG units that have "some" hardware.

(2,275 posts)They are increasing in street presence and refuse most efforts at reform. They have a baseline hostility towards citizens. Everyone is guilty and against them. They will EASILY start loading outspoken Americans into gas chambers. I've had dozens of difficult encounters with them and their body language reeks of nazi sympathiser.

(97 posts)It's not just republicans. It's the demand for security among the rich against a growing proportion of poor. As the inequality increases security measures become more and more severe: thus police militarization - the focus becomes more about internal threats and suppressing the masses of poor. And the GOP goes with the flow.

(29,456 posts)...and look at Vietnam and the child-killing sanctions on Iraq along with daily bombing and the bipartisan support of the second Iraq invasion and occupation and support of Salafist extremists in Syria who routinely butcher Christians, other minorities and anyone in their way while claiming to back an ephemeral Free Syrian Army and the bipartisan support of staggering and debilitating "defense" budgets.
Look hard and wide. The violence is everywhere.

(143 posts)I hope and trust that there are more than a few in the military who have the same commitment to America and the Constitution as Lee Child envisions in his books.

(11,257 posts)as you so rightly point out.
Less environmental regulation = more DEATH by cancer, asthma, posioning
Less safety regulation = more DEATH by accident
Less financial regulation = more DEATH from swindling and poverty
More Wars = more DEATH
Less Obamacare = more DEATH
Less money in people's pockets (lower/no minimum wage, lower taxes on the rich) = more DEATH from poverty
less Medicare = more DEATH
less Medicaid = more DEATH
More racism = more DEATH for minorities
More misogyny = more DEATH from violence against women
more homophobia = more DEATH
more transphobia = more DEATH
DEATH, DEATH, DEATH.
Name ONE policy that the Gang Of Predators supports that doesn't lead (almost directly) to more DEATH.
