In Detailed Letters, Friends Recall Years-Ago Conversations With Blasey Ford About Alleged Attack

Three of professor Christine Blasey Ford’s friends and her husband have given her attorneys detailed letters describing the date, time, place and context of conversations they had with her when she told them about her alleged sexual assault at the hands of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

All four of the conversations, according to the writers’ memories, took place before President Donald Trump announced Kavanaugh as his nominee.

Blasey Ford told her loved ones about the alleged trauma in organic ways. Once was a friend noticing that she looked upset over a 2013 meal and asking more. Once was part of a discussion about the sentencing of Stanford student Brock Turner in 2016. Once was in solidarity with a friend who had posted about her own sexual assault in 2017. And once was in couple’s therapy with her husband in 2012.

One of the conversations is preserved, in part, in an email exchange, when a friend followed up on a conversation, asking the name of the alleged attacker in the days after Supreme Court justice Anthony Kennedy’s resignation.

She reportedly replied simply: “Brett Kavanaugh.”
