They are willing to make many many sacrifices to reach this goal imo. I believe they would give up control of both houses to control the Supreme Court for next several decades.

So they know, there is a huge upside and little downside. There is already going to be a blue wave of sorts. They don't care about losing the Democratic voters, since they don't vote for Republicans, anyway.

They've weighed the pluses and minuses, and that tells them to "plow ahead," as McConnell put it. They don't CARE if Kavanaugh is a sexual predator. After all, so is the President and many of the men in Congress.

The Senate is a bastion of male supremacy, also. The females just got a bathroom a couple of decades ago, and it was tiny with only 2 toilets. Schumer had to pass a rule to allow the women to use the Senate pool (yes, there's a pool. It was a male-only pool.) AND they fought Schumer on that.

There is a reason the Senate Judiciary is all white male.

There is a reason the Senate health committee to write a new health care plan was all white male.

The reason is...they want it that way. Men are the top of the hierarchy, and they are not about to give away their power.
