CNN’s Jim Acosta asks Trump to call on a female reporter after calling on only men — but Trump doesn’t get why

CNN’s White House correspondent Jim Acosta suggested to the president that he call on a female reporter since he’d only called on men at the beginning of Wednesday’s press conference. But when the request came, the president didn’t understand why.

“If you don’t mind, after I’m finished, if Halley or Vivian or one of the female colleagues could go after me, that would be great,” Acosta began. “Just to follow up on — “

“What does he mean by that? Explain,” Trump asked.

“I think it would be great if a female — ” Acosta tried to respond.

“What does it mean?” Trump asked.

“It would be great if a female reporter could ask a question about this issue,” Acosta said.

“I wouldn’t mind that at all,” Trump said.

Later when Trump did call on a female reporter he went on his own rant before she could ask her question. At the end of the rant the reporter asked if she could ask her question.

“You’ve been asking your question for ten minutes,” Trump said. “Go sit down.”
