I am so sad tonight.

The Convent of San Marco in Florence, Italy, is closing its doors. They lack the staffing of monks
due to the order of Dominican friars dying out.

If you love Early Renaissance art, that convent was your ticket to heaven. Wonderful frescoes by Fra Angelico.

I guess I was fortunate to have walked in its halls when I did, so many times, in my numerous trips to Florence for its abundance of art. I am certain the frescoes of Fra Angelico will be transferred to other museums in Italy but the Italian government should step in and insure that these art works will be moved to appropriate museums.

I am sad, but hopeful...
