might have been a good thing.
The contrast between Franken and Kavanaugh could hardly be more stark.

He would've been unloading all over these republicon dirtbags.

(3,344 posts)Due process is a core American principle. Stunning how many people cheer it being chucked away.
And who says Kavanaugh won't get confirmed? Republicans are still fighting for him hard, despite the endless horror stories.

(42,862 posts)We didn't need to sacrifice him for this. It was unnecessary... and nothing can ever make his loss worthwhile.
That would be like a flood victim in the Carolinas forcing themselves to find a "bright side" by saying "at least their grass doesn't need watering".

Believe victims.

Honestly, Franken was one of our best people, and he needs to run again. If he does, I bet he wins in a landslide.
Now, that is merely my opinion.
I have a friend, also a male, that had a whole different take. He applauded it, even without due process, and said, "Hey, great women are standing up, and if Franken has to be sacrificed, then that is a good thing."
With all due respect for my friend, who is a dear friend I've known for over 30 years, this is the difference between an armchair general and a person who has served in combat as a field officer.
The armchair general says, "Oh, we may have to sacrifice huge numbers of troops, but we will win in the end, so it's all good."
The field officer is looking at the general and thinking, "Yeah, but you aren't going to be one of the people sacrificed. It's my platoon, or company, or battalion, or brigade that is gonna get wiped out. Good cause? Maybe, but tell that to the spouses, children and parents of the soldiers you're blithely sacrificing."
Unfortunately, many many of the Dems I know think like this field officer, and not the general. That, I fear, will hurt Gillibrand big time. Possibly Harris as well. And I'm NOT happy with Bernie because those calls for Franken to resign before he'd had due process were bull puckee.
That's my whole objection, you know. Due process. Franken was entitled to it but didn't get it.
Cosby got due process and he's in prison now.
Kavanaugh is probably going to go down after Senators refuse to consent. But he quite likely won't suffer any other sanctions - at least not for a long time. But he IS entitled to due process. So is Trump and all the other sleazoids in his administration and in the GOP.
If you have due process and are convicted, or at the least forced to resign, fine. But Franken didn't have that. He was convicted by innuendo and basically our party shot itself in the foot. That whole thing still disgusts me.
