Many women you know have been sexually assaulted and have never spoken a word.
When I was 16, I snuck to a party without adults.
There were lots of upper classmen there.
One of the cute guys paid attention to me. Sweet talked me all night. We ended up in his truck making out.
Things turned really heavy and he laid me down and pinned me down and went for my pants.
I was able to get away and went back into the party.
I was devastated. I thought for a long time that it was because he liked me and maybe we could date. Of course he never called to apologize. I was naive enough at that time not to realize why I felt so bad about it.
When I was a young adult, I got counseling.
It was very helpful to help me through the issues that I have with men and relationships.
Prior experiences have left me not wanting or desiring relationships.
Ive refrained from thinking about the near miss because there has been something worse that happened.
But Dr. Fords account is so much like my experience and I decided I was going to see if I could find what this guy
is doing these days. I found a newspaper article from a few years ago where he is a felon (unsure why) and that he was arrested again with possession of meth and was also a sex offender.
I found some satisfaction with that because I would have never had the guts to confront him because of the embarrassing situation...but as with most of these guys, there is never just one.
I would like to thank the woman who had the guts to put herself on the line to out this predator.
I have the utmost respect for Dr. Ford. Its not easy to discuss embarrassing details from such a vulnerable age of her life.
I stand in support of her tomorrow as she tells not only her story....but the story of so many others who didnt and still dont have the guts to talk about this publicly.

(53,788 posts)One thing I don't understand though is why you think it would be embarrassing to you?
Seriously I want to understand. That attempted rapist should be the one embarrassed if the story came out, even arrested.

I believe Dr. Ford and the other women who came forward. My heart goes out to you, them, and anyone else who had that kind of horrible experience.

That's not just a coincidence. It's what rape culture looks like.
