This is NOT the type of person that needs to be on the USSC. (I'm sure we've had alcoholic/drunk Justices before... but when we know about it in advance... as we do now... why would anyone risk it?)

(81,313 posts)Watching that eruptive display, the anger, the sturm und drang, the belligerence - Judicial Temperament????????????? Good Grief!!!!!!!
Wil Wheaton's Facebook essay included a comment about how it's become easy "to see this guy as a belligerent drunk who won't take no for an answer."
"Everything about him is terrible. He's *clearly* a rich prep school kid who has never been told "no" in his life, and we saw today what happens whenever someone tries to tell him no. It wasn't particularly difficult to see this guy as a belligerent drunk who won't take no for an answer. You could clearly see it in his ranting and raving, his angry yelling at a female senator, and his overwhelming, palpable sense of entitlement."

I am now afraid of Brett Kavanaugh. I'd want a security detail around me if I were ever going to have to meet him.

(12,165 posts)This opening statement is bizarre.
He just said something along the lines of, I like beer. I like it a lot. Will all men who like beer in the United States be accused of sexual assault?
He also comes across as sexist by using women he knows as human shields. Its like the homophobe who says, I have gay friends. It rings just as hollow.

(1,402 posts)I just saw Kavanaugh speaking on Nat'l TV in the hearing and he said something, like 'what if this happened to your son or brother'. Well, if my son or brother had done such a horrible deed, I'd expect them to stand up, take their punishment like a man. I would be very disappointed and angry if they were whining like Kavanaugh is doing right now!!! He deserves what he gets!!

Mr.Bill
(24,303 posts)She's being accused of fabricating this entire story and now committing perjury by testifying about it under oath. She accused of being the kingpin in a Democratic conspiracy to destroy the career of a Supreme Court nominee. She has been since the day she was named.
7962
(11,841 posts)Most were calling her a victim of the system too. The RW talking heads certainly have said it, but none of the GOP questioning yesterday ever accused her of lying. Both have received threats against them up to even DEATH.
I know we are members of a partisan site; we're ALL partisans with our beliefs. But that doesnt mean that you have to leave objectivity at the door either. I try to view every story with objectivity. And the bad optics of the committee having this info for weeks and never mentioning it to the nominee looks AWFUL. They should have immediately gone to him and asked for an explanation. On top of that Dr Ford says she was NEVER told of the offer for the interview to be done at her location. Not her fault, but why wasnt she told?
Vote against him because of his ideology, sure, but not because of this. If this succeeds, the future for any Dem nominee will be equally invasive and ridiculous. Wait till nominees are picked 20 yrs from now & the impact of social media of their youth comes up!!
Look how many members of Congress have paid off sexual harassment claims in recent years that were kept quiet. Dem & GOP together. Why are they still in office? Sure, a few are gone (Franken should have NEVER resigned) but the rest remain. Where are THOSE investigations.
7962
(11,841 posts)If youre saying hes guilty, his behavior is indefensible. Period. But nice try.

(11,841 posts)Maybe this new movement with the FBI will find something. But if this were in a courtroom it would be tossed based on everything thats been presented. And theres a litany of cases where the "100% sure eyewitness" has been proven wrong after people have been sent to jail.
And if the FBI comes back in a week and says "we've found no evidence to support the claim", THEN what? Obviously, if they do find something he's DONE FOR.

(229 posts)Hi. I wanted to point out something-Dr. Ford repeatedly said that she could name three people other than Kavanaugh at the gathering-, Leland, Mike Judge, and a boy named P.J.-most importantly, another boy whose name she did not know. Yet Kavanaugh some ten times mentioned that FOUR witnesses refuted it. How would he know who the fourth (person) boy was?
Meaning, how would he know there could be four signed statements given to the SJC-and how would the SJC even know there were four to secure, if it never happened, and the accuser could not name more than three?
