I think that these allegations against Kavanaugh would have stopped several GOP senators from voting for the nuclear option. In their eyes, they could justify it since they viewed Gorsuch as unblemished. I think at least 2 KGOP senators would have thought long and hard about the legitimacy of the nuclear option given these circumstances.
I was one of those who thought theyd nuke under any circumstances so supported the Dem move in 2017. I never envisioned a nominee being as toxic as Kavanaugh at that time though.
Lesson learned to pick my battles more wisely. If we didnt filibuster in 2017, Kavanaugh would be dead in the water today.

(7,867 posts)Republicans would not have allowed the Democrats to do to them what they did to us. If we tried to use the filibuster to stop the Kavanaugh nomination, they would have just eliminated it then.
How many times do Republicans have to fuck us over before people realize that is their DEFAULT position?

(1,835 posts)Flake, Collins, and Murkowski could say they support the nomination but also say they support the long established rules of their august body. It would have allowed those without a spine some wiggle room to block Kavanaugh.

(7,867 posts)...but that wouldn't have been what happened.
There is absolutely no chance in hell Mitch McConnell would have allowed the Democrats to filibuster a Supreme Court nomination away. Absolutely none.

So the filibuster didn't last very long at all.
